Just right behind one of Berlin’s biggest architectural catastrophes, the “Kotbusser Tor”, lies one of Berlin’s longest serving drinking dens. The Wuergeengel.
It’s a great bar with attentive service and solid drinks. And it does completely lack any of the hipness craze you might bump into in Mitte and Prenzlauerberg. This is a Kreuzberg bar. And probably the most authentic and best.
I loved the atmosphere at my first visit. It’s dense, friendly, but with that certain kind of personal distance a good bar offers. This bar is a friend. I’ll be back.
The bar was named after a movie by Luis Bunuel from 1962:
