A nice quiet meal is always on offer at Cru during the week, I’m not sure about weekends. It’s nice to not have to book ahead. Prices are a bit high, 16 quid for a chicken main, 11 quid for the vegetarian main. But there are some good deals, such as tapas for two that are 15 quid and a pre-theatre menu for 12 quid for two courses.
Sir B ordered the chicken and that was yummy, nice crisp skin on the outside while still tender on the outside. Sir B also liked the hearty lamb burger that he had. Their homemade tomato sauce was yummy, I wanted more of that. I enjoyed my polenta on roasted veggies, though I felt there were way too many carrots compared to the more interesting veggies such as green beans and asparagus. I liked the roasted bell pepper sauce. The veggie option was a very light main course or could even be a side dish, while the burger and chicken will fill you up without a problem.
They have several wines available by the glass, the cheapest starting at 3.5 quid. I actually liked my 3.5 quid merlot better than the 5 quid red, but that’s just me. It has a very small bar space, so I’d plan on sitting at a table if you want to have some wine.
This place always seems busy around dinnertime, but during the day it’s pretty quiet. Perhaps that is why they offer free wi-fi? Service is efficient and quick, if a bit quirky.
