This is a must.. The tour was very informative and ended with a couple of free beers.. The shop was great place for presents ..
Visiting Amsterdam? Like beer? If so, then you must pay a visit to the Heineken Experience. My boyfriend and I decided to go here after a long Sunday of looking at art, mainly because (having been to both the Guinness brewery and Bushmills distillery), we were intrigued to see just how much of an 'experience' the Heineken Experience really was.
It is, undeniably, a huge tourist trap. Indeed, from the moment you walk through the door and hand over your 15 euros, you get a pretty good idea that it's going to be one huge advertisement for Heineken. But it's pretty difficult to be cynical about the place, mainly because it's so much fun. You get to find out about the history of Heineken, and the thought which went into the branding of the logo and the bottles, see the actual brewery itself, meet the dray horses and (and this was undeniably the best bit of the tour) actually 'be the beer' - an interactive experience which sees you shaken around, rained on, and finally bottled. It's all extremely silly, but a great laugh all the same.
If that wasn't enough, you also get to drink a fair bit of Heineken - and a nice person will even show you how to taste it properly instead of just swilling it around your mouth like an uncultured oik (it's all about drinking it in such a way that you don't actually swallow any of the foam). You get two free mini pints of beer at the end, although if you're lucky, you might be able to get a few more. Especially if the bloke sat across from you at the bar table passes out and his mate gives you his drinks!
thesussexidler Have I told you about my Special Brew experience? It wouldn't involve a museum, I can assure you.....

These tours always seem the same, but oh what fun they can be!
Most of the tour is self-direccted and feels a bit boring until you get to one of the actual guides who either gives you the story of the Heineken process, gives you a class in tasting beer, puts you in a simulator or helps you pour the perfect pint at the end.
While there are a few rooms that seemed to be strange additions to a tour and the routing gets a bit confusing, the overall feeling is... let's get to the end with the 'free' beer!
Overall I would say it's a good experience, but I much prefer the Guinness Storehouse in Dublin as far as a tour/experience goes.
I have been here at least six times now and each time I go they seem to put the price up, its more than double to what I paid when I first went. Having said that if you have a bit of time to kill and are nearby its still worth a giggle. On entry you are given a set of vouchers these are for your free beers and a gift. Over the years I have collected numerous heineken glasses in a tin and bottle openers. I think the first time I went you got about 6 drinks included in the price but if there was a bus trip in attendance, at the end bar they would not have time to use their vouchers and pass them on, so you would end up quite drunk. Now you only get three, one for half way round and two at the end. These beers will be the best you will taste while you are in amtserdam. Theres plenty of interactive things to do and a souvineir shop at the end
Newly remodeled with some neat insights to beer making. Most corporate tours are quite short and lame, but this one lasted quite a while and was very original. You get 2 glasses of fresh beer with the admission. Make sure you make a bottle of beer with your name on it… it’s only 5 euro and a great easy souvenir.
The Heineken Brewery tour is one of the best tourist attractions in Amsterdam. Visitors get to see the process of how the beer is created and manufactured.
This is a historic building and attendees also learn the history of the location. I loved hearing about the different brands ( i.e. Amstel) and about the amount of beer that is produced.
Being able to taste the actual beer is the best part.
Doing the “heineken experience” was one of my favourite things I did while in Amsterdam. Even though some people may say the entry price is quite high (11 euros, this includes 3 beers), it is well worth the money. There are lots of interactive things to do here, as well as learning about the history of heineken.
As a non-drinker I wasn’t expecting to enjoy this but I did. It was great way to spend a couple of hours and quite interesting. I seem to remember the entrance fee was quite reasonable and included a few free drinks and gift (beer glass) which we collected on the way out.
I would recommend the Heineken Experience.
I think that this was quite possibly the most fun thing I did when I was in Amsertdam, which is saying something because it was a great trip.
There was so many interactive things to do and on top of that you learn some really interesting things about the history of heineken and making beer. And they give you free beer.
It’s a really fun day out and definitely something light hearted that I would recommend doing in Amsterdam.
The Heineken Experience is great fun, it’s an old brewery filled with all manner of hi tech devices, video presentations, beer related paraphernalia, games etc etc, with all the bright images and video screens its hard not to walk out with Heineken burned into your retina (Which might be part of the plan) but I had a great time and of course there is beer along the way, with stop-off points in case you get thirsty! However looking at reviews below it used to be all you can drink, now it is indeed only 3 mini-pints, :( If you are desperate/lucky you might find some tokens lying around from non-beer drinkers and get a couple of extras!
I love the Heineken Experience - and I don’t even drink beer! It’s without a doubt in my top three must do’s in Amsterdam. You get to go through the process of making the beer, including a show-scan movie experience as you become a bottle in a factory. There’s bright green pods you can lie in and see the various advertising campaigns through the years. You get to taste the beer at various stages in it’s production and of course included in the price are a couple of beers. The best bit is at the end with a media room where you can use various intuitive machines to send messages home. My favourite was a karaoke type thing where you stand in front of a blue screen and sing Dutch words that pop up on a screen in front of you to some cheezy old music. The result is hilarious! They pop you into a boat on one of the canals surrounded by typically dressed people all singing with you and you sound awful. Definitely one of the best things to remember your trip by - you must go!
Oh dear. Ten years ago this place was so popular you had to buy a ticket the day before, but it only cost about a pound. You sat through a fairly mundane 45 minute talk, with a video, looked at the old vats, then had half an hour to drink as much beer as you could in the beerhall. If it was your birthday you got a free tankard.
Times have changed. I read a review on another website that said they charge €11 now. And that price is bound to rise when it reopens. You’re only allowed 3 beers now, included in the entry price, and no free tankard on your birthday. Shame.
So, my experience was a one off. Or a two off. Worth it for the dray horses, if they’re still there, the beauty of the beerhall, the quality of the beer. And did you know that Heineken, Amstel and Murphy’s are all the same company? Obviously Heineken created Murphy’s to compete with guinness. don’t try and walk there though, get a tram, it’s a distance.
