'orrible smelly place. My food was covered in what could only be described as 'brown bits' and I had to sit opposite someone that was a drunken idiot. not pleasant.

Review of O'Neill's Irish Bar from 11 March 2012

Went there today for the first time, believe it or not. Was really busy but managed to find a table and looked over the menu.
We both decided to have the deluxe burger which comes with a flat mushroom, onion ring, Irish cheese and served in a soft white bap, the burger is made from 100% Irish beef. This is also served with chips.
We ordered our food along with 2 Pepsi’s at the bar and were served by a friendly barkeeper, and sat back down.
After a few minutes we were brought our drinks and about 10-15 minutes later our food arrived… Wow the burgers were tall and my first thought was ‘how am I ever going to get my mouth round that’. The waiter asked if he can get anything else, to which we wanted vinegar which was brought straight over.
The food was extremely nice indeed and the cheese was REAL CHEDDAR and not the processed muck you get on fast food burgers. They also had a bottle of Irish burger relish, which was some of the best we’ve ever tried.

All in all it was a great meal and would definitely go there again.
Highly recommended!!

Review of O'Neill's Irish Bar from 23 November 2008

This O Neills Irish Bar is set inside fantastic building that spent many years as a cinema (frequently showing blue movies or so i’m told!).

The inside is laid out over two floors and has a bar on both levels. The ground floor is humungous and there is a large open seating area with lots of round tables, a dining area with larger square tables plus lots of snug alcoves too. Upstairs there is less seating but there are some huge arched windows that give a great view of the street life below. The upstairs area is also the family area where children can drink and eat until the early evening.

Being an old cinema it has kept a lot of the original features and there is a balcony area that you cannot use but has cardboard cut-outs of people that make it look like a real cinema audience - brilliant.

Due to its closeness to the main shopping area, The Millennium Stadium and the Cardiff Central railway station the pub does get really busy. Being a JD Wetherspoon pub means that the drinks and food prices are really cheap.

It’s a great place to start your weekend!

Cheap cheerful and a good place for grub and a pint. The veggie selction could be expanded a little though!

Great as your first port of call when getting into Cardiff!

The live music is great too.

I love this pub - the staff are always helpful and has a great atmosphere. The food is reasonable and of good pub quality.
The live music is always good. Also the Saturday Night up stairs in the music room is good.
