Review of Astley Arms from 6 March 2012

The carvery really lovely, but cleanliness of tables leave alot to be desired – a quick wipe with a cloth when you ask for it is not sufficient. I would suggest that a good scrub clean at the end of every night is what’s needed.

May be good value for early Teatime on a school night,…. But Sunday late lunch was not the most pleasent dining experiance, only two meats not the 4 advertised, veg tired looking, view through severy door into kitchen worrying, veg scattered on floor, fly hovering patiently over both meats!
Gravey serving area sticky and unpleasent, Gravey with mustard grains no
normal gravey, ok for adults, not nice for a young child.

Decor tired loking, tables only cleared when we requested cutlery! Diet coke was flat all in all not the happiest of sunday treats!
Staff pleasent enough just sadly in short supply.

This was our 2nd attempt at the ASTLEY, having read earlier reviews that it had improved, sadly this was not the case today! August 21st

Although it can be hit and miss getting a table at peak times the food is good and represents excellent value for money. The location is good as well, being close to teh sea and a playground there is always somewhere to take the kids if they are getting bored.

Sorry but a complete rant.

Went there tonight and got told to wait for a table and that I would have to get it my self. Even though I asked for a table for six to be reserved when it was free.

The pub was that busy there wasn’t a single empty seat in the whole pub.

This pub used to be much better than it is now. I used to take my family here. The food was tasty and plentiful, the staff quick and pleasant. However, we had an unpleasant experience finding something other than food (broken plate) in our dinner. The staff replaced the meal but offered no more than a bland apology and free drink. We haven’t been back since, however, when it was on form it was really worth going as the interior is very comfortable and the location, just on the sea front, is excellent if going with kids - there is a little park opposite too.

A family friendly pub that has a warm atmosphere and reasonably fast service. If you’re enjoying a sunny day at the beach when it suddenly starts to rain then you can quickly take shelter and grab refreshments here. Last time I did this, two desserts were ordered. One being the strawberry cheesecake, the other was warm chocolate fudge cake. Two small bottles of red wine (18.75ml) were ordered aswell. I remember particularly enjoying the strawberry cheesecake but felt liking screaming at the kids who I felt were screaming at me. This obviously was not the case, I just don’t like screaming kids. I suppose if you enter a family friendly place you have to expect families who aren’t necessary friendly. My last visit here was like a scene from Withnail & I.
