I Work in Plymouth,
I have a lot of friends who ride bikes,
this place is a meeting place for Local Fisherman,
Bikers, Tourists, I have been going for years and never tire of it,
The food is honest, and you get decent portions,
The Half Yard of Hotdog is briliant, none of those frankfurter things,
oh no, two proper jumbo sausages,
The Jasperizer is one of my favourites – I have an Egg in it as well to make it really messy.
The Cups of Tea and Coffee with Hot Milk in Pyrex cups with a 20p deposit are lovely on a cold day,
I have recently discovered the Honalulu Burger with pineapple in it..
The Shack itself is in a quality location and the Fresco with mouldings on the side is a proper Photo opportunity for tourists..
All I can say if you are in Plymouth as a tourist.. Get down the Barbican,
go to the end past all the fancy umbrella seated places,
Go to Capn Jaspers,
Buy some food, a Car Sticker, a Tshirt – have some good conversation and enjoy yourself.. and what’s more the biggest burger, the Jasperizer comes with Change from a fiver… you can’t say that in Burger King!!

A Plymouth staple by the Marina (nice location, for sure!). Had a half yard hot dog, which is a great way to fill up. I've had better sausage recently though (oo-er). This was just OK. But for fast food this is a pretty good option. I’ve always been nervous about ordering burgers from places like this, but I might try one next time.

It was back in 2005 or 6, when I had a cheeseburger. Taste was really good and kind of roastish.
yum yum, just checked the menu. I should go there again!!

Mostly bikers. Pricey and there can be a roaring gale with limited protection. But on fine days it is a lovely spot overlooking the dock.

It may not be the little shack it was when I first came across it in 1988, serving fishermen and late night/early morning revellers but it still an iconic part of Plymouth Barbican and unmissable.
First things first - be prepared to defend your meal from voracious seagulls! Be assertive and they'll back off. There always seem to be a good number of genial bikers strutting round in their leathers or jeans adding colour and character - mix in tourists, students, locals, pub goers, the occasional stray sailor and you have a great place to eat summer or winter.
Yes it is outside but that is all of the charm, the tea is blisteringly hot, the coffee milky 1960's standard, the food is great - not high cuisine or fake in any way just good standard grub with a great twist, a foot long baguette filled with deliciousness, unmissable!!
If you are a veggie you do have some options but it is more meat orientated.
If you are in Plymouth for any reason visit Capn Jaspers, it is as Plymouth as Plymouth Argyle and a lot less stressful to go to.

Not cheap. Has evolved and changed a lot since it was established two or three decades ago by John Dudley. Probably no longer worthy of its iconic status. It isn't that interesting or that different anymore. Its only open till midnight. its no longer open very early in the morning because the fishing trawlers are now based on the other side of the harbour. It is often heaving with bikers in their leathers and an uncomfortable number of patrolling and off duty policeman. Everything is cooked fresh and there can be a wait. But its a good friendly burger bar.

As a student in Plymouth for pretty 5 years, I cannot tell you how many times i visited this place after a beery session around the Barbican. Vast range of burgers and hot dogs to be had including the infamous foot long. Not something to tackle lightly. Great location too overlooking the harbour and only 2 mins walk from the Mayflower steps.

The famous Cap’n Jaspers is a must-see for the Plymouth visitor. It is ideally situated on Plymouth’s famous Barbican. The “restaurant” specialises in the unusual! Baps, torpedos, baguettes, with pretty well any filling you wish to have! A wonderfully mouthwatering selection awaits. If you are looking for nouveaux cuisine, go somewhere else. If you’re looking for the friendliest place to eat awesome instantly prepared food, whilst sitting with fellow diners of any size, shape or form, then this is the place for you! Wonderful!

This place is great, especially the whole yard. if you love greasy food then this is for you and it’s right on the harbour. It is always bustling here, and you have pubs aplenty to wash your food too afterwards.

Cap n Jaspers is an institution! If you are down the barbican during the day or late at night it’s the place to go for food cooked to order. The food is reasonably priced and tastes fantastic. If your feeling particularly hungry and up to the challenge go for the half a yard hotdog!

Cap’n jaspers is a great little food outlet, everything is cooked to order and there are many quirky things on the menu such as a yard of hotdog. All the stall are really friendly and there is a small seating area if you want to sit there and enjoy the scenery. As you queue you can read all about the history of Cap’n Jaspers and there is plenty of little things going on in the background to keep you occupied as you wait to order. I would highly recommend this place to anyone visiting the historical barbican and wanting an inexpensive snack.

If you are visiting Plymouth, you must give this a place a visit. Situated in the historic Barbican area, you will have beautiful views whilst enjoying your 'Al fresco’ lunch. Not for the weight watchers amongst you though

Cap’n Jaspers is one of the icons of Plymouth. From the famous Yard of Sausage to the legendary spoons that must have stirred thousands of cups of tea! Great food, lovely atmosphere, only downside is the scary seagulls hovering for leftovers!

I think most things about this place have been said already, it’s a joy to eat from them, a really fun place. also, if a motorbike fan, it’s a brilliant place to go and just admire the bikes as it’s a popular stop for bikers. Most of them are extremely friendly, too, many a time i’ve seen a young child posing on the seat of a big bike having his picture taken.
Such a fun atmosphere, and surrounded my so much good scenery, the only let down is that it can get very busy and doesn’t always remain the cleanest of places, what with discarded food sometimes dropped.
Overall though, an excellent little place, well worth a visit.

Situated on the waterfront area of the Barbican this is a very popular fast food establishment offering an outside seating area. All the items on the menu are wellcooked and served piping hot at very reasonable prices. The counter area has several novelty items and the more you look the more you see, a visit is a must. Highly recommended.

Fabulous place and a must visit place for visitors. As I was growing up the slogan was 10p for a mug of tea….a bit more expensive now.
Challenge yourself to eat a yard of sausage! You get a badge!
Good, decent, hot food at reasonable prices.
