The urban oasis of the Puro hotel in the old town of La Lonja opened in April 2004 as the only member of Design Hotels on the island. Taking five years to complete, the transformation is stunning, with 26 original rooms and suites, a rooftop plunge pool and inner courtyard scattered with daybeds and cushions to while away the hottest part of the day. The stamp of its enigmatic owner’s wanderlust can be seen in colourful touches around the common areas like wooden screens, bright silk cushions and feathered lamps, all inspired by his travels and the desire to create a haven mixing Mediterranean and Asian influences. Soft and fluid, the white bar and lounge glows with candles by night and positively hums with beautiful people. When its offshoot Puro Beach Club in Palma Bay opened in June 2005, the legend solidified, making this the place to be seen in all of Mallorca. An in-house DJ spins tunes at any time of the day, while guests partake in early-morning yoga by the pool, sip cocktails at the outdoor bar or dance the night away on the terrace. Small groups can enjoy the endless horizons by reserving a few of the 90 covered daybeds, a section of the restaurant, or even enjoy an activity afternoon in the day spa.
