Spirit, Manchester

Spirit sits in the gay village in Manchester and is incredibly popular.

Whilst a lot of the village is gloriously trashy, Spirit is pretty hip-to-the-lip and as such, is somewhere that a lot of people make a bee-line too.

However, it's not so achingly suave that it feels uncomfortable. It's a really good mixed crowd that go in (gay and straight, should that be of importance to you) be they dressed up or in their scruffs having a cheeky couple.

At the weekend, it's pretty noisy but seeing as it's on three floors, you can escape the mayhem of the main throng should you want to.

The drinks aren't the main attraction there as it's more of a place to hang around with people before moving on elsewhere.

Love this bar! Located on Canal Street, there are 3 floors,including a rather snazzy roof terrace. It can get pretty busy but the bar staff are good so you aren’t left waiting for a drink for ages. Clientele are a mix of gay and straight and the atmosphere is fun and relaxed. Prices are average and the selection of drinks is quite extensive.

My only criticism is that the toilets are very small and often get in a bit of a state

Spirit is amazing! Other than having 3 floors including a roof top balcony! theres good music, fit bar staff, and a welcoming atmosphere. There are bed to chill out on, you get to meet lots of new people and just generally have a fun night. Only tiny critisim is that it closes at 2am, when your having that much fun the times flies by and before you know it your outta there

canal street! what more can you say. i loved this place, had an amazing night a couple of months ago! this bar is over 3 floors and is really spacey. you get loads of cool people coming here but its got a really nice vibe to it! ive met some great people! the dance floor is kinda cool with all the different colours…...very very camp! and girly and so so cool. i would say if your thinking of hitting canal street, spirit is the place to go!

Spirit in the gay village in Manchester is a great night out. This is one of the more trendier bars in the village and the music here is great. I only ever go down the village at the weekend so I cant tell you what its like during the week. On the weekend Spirit is always packed and plays some great current dance tunes. As it is on 3 floors it is great to sit on the roof top balcony and have a drink is the summer, idea even if its during the day. On the top floor there is a bit of a dance floor and you will probably see a few people getting down with it. It would take a lot before I started dancing there. This is right at the beginning of the Village, a lot of people start here and work their way up the village before ending in one of the night clubs. These days there are almost as much straight women here as gay men. Its a good environment enjoyed by all

In Canal street but not exclusively a gay bar. Great safe haven for lone females,a fun place with lively and pleasant staff. If you are out for a good time in Manchester head for spirit,to start the evening,or even stay there all evening.

Spirit is one of the larger and more lively bars on Canal Street. It’s split over three floors and also has a sizeable balcony on the top floor, complete with heaters in the colder months.

Prices are pretty average for Canal Street, and there’s a decent selection of drinks on offer. The toilets are situated right at the back at the top of the stairs, which can prove something of a mission on busy nights.

It can get pretty busy at the weekends and can be very quiet during the week, so depending on what kind of night you’re after some careful timing may be required!
