I don’t care much for Matthew McConaughey, but in Dazed and Confused he uttered one of the best dirty lines in cinematic history:
“That’s what I love about these high school girls, man. I get older, they stay the same age.”
Now that I’m a creepy guy with questionable facial hair myself, I can fully appreciate this sentiment. And there’s no better place to indulge in this look-but-don’t-touch scenario than Serra Bowl.
Seriously, if you’re into emo chicks and teenage Paris Hilton skank wannabes, this is the place to cruise. It’s like browsing MySpace pages in 3D.
Beyond that, Serra Bowl’s not a bad place to chuck a ball down some hardwood for giggles. The beer’s cheap, it’s BART accessible, and their snack stand not only has the usual array of bowling alley vittles, but a virtual L&L Barbecue full of Pacific Island treats. It’s probably the most unlikely place to find Spam & eggs, Portuguese sausage, etc. Then again, it is Daly City…
Charmingly enough, neither the facilities nor staff have changed at all since the heyday of bowling in the 1970’s. Ok, they have that electronic scoring system, but otherwise, don’t expect to find swivel seats, decent balls, or even a place to rest your beer.
Serra Bowl is not a place to seek a luxury bowling experience. If such a thing even exists. But it’s a great place to gather with friends, get schnockered on High Life, and taunt each other mercilessly for each gutter ball.
And maybe scope the underage trim.
Speaking of trim, I gotta get rid of this ‘stache before I buy a Camaro and a wardrobe full of muscle shirts.
