In my opinion, the nicest beach in Los Angeles (with Laguna beach just to the south). The locals are less exuberant than on Venice Beach, but the beach is cleaner. On the pier you can find sixties-style fast-food (I think the waiters are recruited by casting) some fishermen and, with a bit of luck, you can see some dolphins or some seals (which shows how cold the water is). The beach has lifeguards at several points, and you can find some good waves (however, nothing in comparison to the waves on Huntington Beach).
