Lovely setting and relaxed pub with a smart restaurant. I checked the menu on the internet before booking to check that there was some game on the menu, but there was none on the menu when we arrived at the restaurant. The scallops were good, the calves liver tasty, the lemon tart had a soggy bottom but the raspberry coulis was excellent. Overall I thought it was a little overpriced.
Previous reviews have mentioned the serving staff and toilets. The staff were young, but polite and attentive. The loos were clean and smart.

Dinner last night at the Stephan Langton was lovely. The steak was juicy and came with a divine blue cheese sauce (mouth watering just thinking about it). the place has just had a refurb, dinning room is now light and airy but still has that cosy feeling you want from a country pub.

Went there on Sunday. Young inexperienced staff. Expensive ham and mustard roll £5.95 (mainly mustard). When we complained the young waitress did not seem to pass on the complaint, as no one came to the table to say anything. A sad lack of care and management. Silly and arrogant to depend on the lovely setting to bring people back if they serve a poor standard of food.

We visited this pub for the first time in years last Sunday and the pub was very busy as you'd expect with the good weather. Considering we hadn't booked and the pub was pretty much full we were pleasantly surprised to hear that the wait for food was only 15mins. We both ordered the chilli burger and chips and it was delicious and a very good sized portion. Perfect! The atmosphere was buzzing with alot of people in and out who all seemed to be regulars. The only dissappointment were the toilets, they seemed to have been neglected for quite some time and could do with a lick of paint. All in all though a very nice experience and we will be coming back again very soon.
Great food - Friendly Staff - Well organised owner - a rare find.

Style over substance. Really disappointing, with main issue being the service. Inexperienced staff who were slow, distracted and disinterested.
Also customers were being told the restaurant was fully booked, but lots of empty tables and always space, so just poor management.
Food not up to scratch either, especially for the price. Starter, was cold, Potatoes and Veg not cooked properly. i.e. uncooked, uncrisp Roast Potatoes
Lovely setting but was spoilt with cars parked everywhere, right up in amongst the picnic tables out the front.
Advice would be to book, and make sure you get a seat in the restaurant that backs onto the garden / not the car park / front. Also, if the carpark is full, there is another one, a couple of mins drive away, (up a hill on the left as you leave the car park). And plan / leave plenty of time as you'll be there a while!

I believe that there is a relatively new landlord here (2010?) and I can say that when we went their for lunch a few months back it was a very pleasant experience. Very friendly staff, top quality food and good sized portions, all coupled together in a traditional pub in beautiful surroundings.

Beautiful pub. Clean and well maintained. Well served real ales. Good/Very good food. Great to use as part of a walk/bike ride on the Leith Hill sections of the North Downs. Not 100% sure about the friendliness of the staff.

Wonderful for Sunday lunch. It’s quite an expedition to find it, and that’s part of the fun. Food is very tasty and staff are friendly. It does get busy so worth arriving early, especially if you want to park right next to the pub. Go for a walk in the woods afterwards.
