Montezuma's

Montezuma's a great place to pop into if you're in dire need of a treat, either for yourself or a friend. It's got a huge range of quirky, experimental chocolates - not all of which work, mind you - but, hey, variety's the spice of life, no? The chocolate's pretty affordable too, given that it's artisan.

My personal favourite has got to be the milk chocolate cocoa crispies & popping candy chocoblock. And if you want to have even more fun, give a bit to a friend without telling him or her what it is. Their reaction when the candy starts to pop (and which can go on for 15 seconds or longer) will be priceless. I know mine was the first time I tried it!

Chocoholics beware! This place will leave you intoxicated... I swear by my own reaction. The chocolate here is built to leave you gasping for more. It doesn't matter if you like a slab of dark or a my favorite chocolate covered cherries. Organic competitors look out... If you like your chocolate, and if you like to try new, innovative combinations, this little shop in the heart of Spitalifields shouldn't pass you... buy!

I suppose it’s a sign of a very good shop when you walk in for one thing and walk out with five! I discovered Montezuma’s during an internet search for vegan chocolate and it went on to become my main shopping site for Christmas presents last year, causing much happiness among my family. Keeping up the fine tradition of buying myself a present for every three family gifts I was happy to sample their dark chocolate buttons, but as they didn’t last long in my greedy clutches it was time recently to stock up again.

The shop in Spitalfields is great - friendly and cosy and packed from floor to ceiling with chocolate. Who could ask for more? My single packet of chocolate buttons soon doubled and gained friends, namely a packet of their drinking chocolate and two tubs of chocolate-covered dates. £15 later and I was marching myself out of there, determined not to cave in to the glass cabinet of fresh truffles, the chocolate covered cherries or the kilo bars.

Thing is, I know I’ll be back again soon - it’s just too good!

Situated in the new Spitalfields shopping complex that persists in offering wide ranging, dynamic products, this well sized Montezuma’s boasts a fine selection of British made chocolates so none of our continental cousins to be found in here. The owners themselves made an interesting career shift, from ex-lawyers turned chocolate entrepreneurs, Helen and Simon Pattinson, founded Montezuma’s in 2000 hand making their organic chocolate with one little machine and one shop in Brighton. There is a great selection of ornate Christmas gift packs, so get in there fast for any last minute, emergency shopping!

If you like your sweets a little bit different and a little bit edgy, this is the place for you. Not at all mainstream, they are the experts in different, mouthwatering combinations and amazingly named treats!

They seem to specialise in chilli chocolate combinations, and also have treats such as tequila and lime, strawberry and paprika and sweet indian curry. Yes, thats right, curry. but it honestly tastes great, and the staff are really helpful in pointing you towards the best choices.

They have some great gift selections too, or you can buy single truffles if you want to try them all!

This is a lovely chocolate shop from the award winning British chocolatiers Montezuma. Located at the start of Spitalfields Markets, has beautiful handmade (& mostly) organic chocolate truffles & choc bars. YUM. Do all sorts of weird & wonderful flavours like: Chilli, Three Pepper, Sweet Paprika & Strawberry, Peppermint & Vanilla, plus loads of others including all the various truffle flavours. Have lots of ready gift wrapped options available. I think they are very reasonably priced considering the quality & make lovely gifts.

REALLY nice chocolate’s. Loads of assortment, truffles and different kinds of chocolate. I really love this place.
