Only here for lunch, but that was excellent. Good food, friendly staff, lovely setting. Child friendly. Disabled access round the back, so you don't have to do the stairs.

A jewel in an oasis. Bright and cheerful, full of fun and good nosh too. I have to admit that it's the cider that draws me back there time and time and time again. I love the place, my liver might not agree.

Review of cross foxes from 14 February 2011

The Cross Foxes recently reopened under Dewi and Nicol's care after being shut for some 7 years. Perfectly positioned for those travelling from north to south Wales, it's also in a great spot for those wishing to explore southern Snowdonia.

But enough with the guidebook - my friends and I had a good, drunken, time here during our annual Christmas reunion. We had a three-course meal with plenty of booze - the company was great but the food and service need a little touching up if the Cross Foxes is to reach the standard I think it aspires to.

The menu is not extensive: I had smoked salmon, steak and sticky toffee pudding. Most of the food was good but let down by, for example, the greasy chips (jenga style - yawn), the slightly lackadaisical service and the fact that no-one was told there was no custard or ice-cream until they'd ordered their puddings. I've heard that the quality of the food depends on who's cooking that night so let's hope that I was there on a "poor" night.

The decor and toilets are impeccable - plenty of oak and slate - and the place is unrecognisable from the old-fashioned state it was in in the early 2000s. It's a great place - I'd say that if they iron out the niggles with the food and service they'll be on to a winner.

Thank you very much for your feedback and comments following your visit to the Cross Foxes. I am most grateful and am truly sorry that your visit was disappointing in some aspects. As you know, we are a very new business and while this is not an excuse, Dewi and I are to some extent still learning the trade. We clearly have some way to go to achieve our goals and offer the quality of service and food which we wish to be achieving. I can assure you that your comments will galvanise both us to review and rectify the areas of our fledgling business which are not yet functioning as well as we would like.

Please accept our sincere apologies and we would urge you to give us another try should you visit the area in the future. We are working hard to unlock the potential of the Cross Foxes and reach the point where we can consistently meet and exceed high expectations. We have taken on-board your comments (as we do with all feedback) and hopefully your next visit will be memorable for more positive reasons.

    With kindest regards

    Nicol and Dewi

Hi Nicol & Dewi! Thanks very much for the response. No need to apologise - we had a great time - it just would have been amazing without the minor issues! All the best with the business, we'll be back soon!
