3 reviews of Lake Nakuru National Park in English
I went here some years ago and was astounded by the beauty of the place… It is famous for the pink flamingos which flock to the lake but unfortunately we didn’t get to see them although the lake still looks wonderful without the pink array!!! We got to see the lions at the last minute after a day of tracking them… But they have Giraffes, Rhino and an amazing amount of wart hogs in fact they were around when we tried to go to the loo… a little scary… The zebra are like horses out there so they are pretty much everywhere… All in all it is a truly wondrous place and I thoroughly enjoyed myself as did the others in our party I would love to go again…
Lake Nakuru is an incredible place. First of all it’s the largest fully enclosed reserve in Kenya. We stayed in Nakuru lodge which is in the middle of the reserve and when we stepped out from our hut, we could look out over the wall into the park and watch the buffalo and girraffe.
If you go at the right time of year, the lake at Nakuru is absolutely awash with flamingos. You feel like you’re looking out over a living carpet of them, and believe me they’re loud too!! It’s quite a site.
They have both black and white rhino there, although we only saw the black. They also have hippos which we didn’t manage to see, but we did see lion, girraffe, water buffalo, a very large number of different monkeys (afraid I can’t remember all the different sorts we saw), wildebeast, zebra, impalla, various different sorts of deer, and a huge number of beautiful birds. Kenyan starlings are georgous, and they are everywhere!
It’s an incredibly peaceful place to visit and for us it really was the holiday of a life time visiting Kenya, and Nakuru was probably one of the key highlights. I think to truely get a feel for the place you really do want to stay at least a couple of nights if you can.
Simply one of the best safari parks in Kenya. Small enough to enjoy if you only have a day, but large enough and relatively quiet enough to not lose the illusion of escape from humanity.
Nakuru provides the visitor with many unique photo opportunities, and one of Kenya’s best known images; thousands of flamingo, joined into a massive flock, covering the shores of this soda lake, feasting on the abundant algae. A pulsing pink swathe of life that carpets the water, the flamingo truly are a breathtaking sight.
The park also provides visitors and almost guaranteed sight of Rhinos, both White and Black having been introduced.
There are the options of camping near the entrance gate, or staying in a lodge. Though the lodge is expensive, there are nice views from the bar, and the swimming pool is great for those cooking lunchtime breaks!
