Don't go there if you are on a night out with the your wife, girlfriend etc because its not that sort of place.
Don't go there if you expect any sort of service.
Don't go there if you are a tourist.
Don't go there until the entire staff have been sacked by the owners.

Let me start by saying that I initially would have given this place 3-4 stars because the food was halfway decent, the location was good, and the particular waiter I had was extremely nice. I don't consider myself a particularly picky person and it takes quite a lot to really upset me. But I couldn't just sit back and not write a review after my ridiculous experience.
I had to pay for my food at that bar when I arrived which was fine, but the bartender forgot to give me a receipt when I asked for one and I will partially blame myself for forgetting to ask for one a second time. I was cold and hungry so I rushed upstairs to find a table. As soon as I received my food I asked the waiter for a receipt since I hadn't received one downstairs and he said it wouldn't be a problem for me to ask for one on the way out.
NOT the case.
On my way out I tried to catch the lady who had taken my order but she was heading down to the basement. When I explained my situation to the gentleman (though I would say he's not worthy of being called such a nice thing), he told me he couldn't give me a receipt. When I asked him why not he went off on me about how it's impossible to duplicate a receipt after the fact, etc.
I politely told him my situation as explained above and said I'd be happy to wait for the lady who had taken my order and he told me it wasn't possible.
He proceeded to ignore me for the next few minutes as I stood there patiently while he helped other customers.
The he turns to me and loudly says "What's your problem?"
I told him I needed the receipt so I could expense it as I was here on business.
He ended up printing out a receipt for the most recent gentleman's order (which leads me to believe he could have looked for my receipt on the bar or in the trash) for more than I actually paid and literally threw it at me.
I have never felt so belittled nor have I ever been so humiliated in my life. I can tell you I will NEVER go back to this place.
This man who was the manager was a complete jerk and what I'd really like to know is what the heck his problem was. I have now read 3 or 4 different reviews where people have referred to him as a "prick" so I know this wasn't him having a bad day.
I wasn't asking for a refund, I wasn't asking for a handout, I just wanted a receipt!
It wasn't that busy and it isn't that difficult to duplicate a receipt.
I have worked as a waitress and it takes two seconds to enter the food/beverage into the system and write a note for the kitchen that says "DO NOT FILL ORDER" and print a cash receipt. OR he could have simply voided the order after printing the receipt.
To the manager: Thanks for ruining the start of my trip to London. So much for hospitality....

We were desperate to find somewhere to eat before going to see "Priscilla, Queen of the Desert" after being delayed by traffic and road works as we came into the City by hired coach from Reading.
No one could promise us the turn round from order to supply until we found the MOG....We received a pleasant welcome, put in our orders (There were eight of us) and started our drinks. The food came well cooked and nicely presented without too much delay. I had Fishfinger sandwiches with Chips which was super considering, and we were well fed so we could get to P,QOTD before the curtain rose.
We didn't have to hurry the meal so I enjoyed the theatre without the indigestion I have experienced elsewhere in the past!!

Every time I come here I make a mental note to return soon. As it is, I only ever seem to use the Marquis of Granby as a useful meeting place before rushing off to somewhere else.
Which is probably just as well as it is always packed which makes relaxed conversation impossible.
It's a proper pub that has barely changed over the years. Good selection of beer, but also decent wine.

Went here for a nice pint to watch the footie, what a mistake. Night absolutely ruined by the prick bouncer on the door. Couldn't understand a word he said (he had a strong irish accent, sounded drunk), the only recognizable language he used was swear words. Avoid.

Used to be my handy “near my tube stop” after work local but these days I like it more so in the summer as it has an area right in front of the pub where you can stand out (stand being the operative word as there are only two tables outside with seating) and watch all the hustle and bustle of London life go by. Pulls in a big crowd, mainly all the media types as a lot of them work in the area, anyhoo it makes for a good lively atmosphere. I can’t speak for the beers as I don’t drink the stuff, but wine by the glass/bottle is good value and their summer pimms is half decent. Why only 2 stars you may ask? Well I have to say the last time I went my phone got nicked by some professional pick pocketer. What makes it worse is I know exactly how he did it, the thieving b****. My advice don’t put your phone down on the table as they look for people who do exactly that and within seconds it will be gone. So maybe I am being a bit harsh to the Marquis after all it’s not their fault my phone got stolen, but they could do with a notice/sign up outside. Apparently this place is targeted by professional thieves and especially girls who are stupid enough to put their phone on the table.

I used to work just over the road from this place so this was the default after-work destination (see if you can spot the Yahoo plaque on the wall downstairs), so I’ve no idea how I missed the fact they have a huge upstairs room!
There’s a telly up there too so it’s a great hideaway spot if you want to escape the West End crowds and sip your pint in piece while watching a bit of sport.
Adnams and London Pride are on tap plus they have some more unusual stuff in the fridges.
Not the greatest pub in the world (and not entirely cheap either) but I’ve drank in worse.

Nice little boozer with London Pride and Adnam’s on tap (although apparently the Adnam’s was a bit off last night). They also do Erdinger if you are interest in wheat beer. Quite a good function room upstairs (we watched the tennis in this room) and friendly bar staff. Amazingly quiet for a wednesday night on Shaftsbury avenue, so if you’re looking for a place to sit down and have a beer in town, i’d recommend here.
