Here’s what the Belgians do right - fries, mussels, chocolates and beer. Ok, there might be more but those are the only things I care about.
Friday night I met up with some friends at La Trappe for a couple of beers and we were all impressed (so much so that one of my friends brought a group back on Saturday night) We tasted some fantastic beers and had a great conversation with one of the owners who filled us in on some of the history of the place. There are a few bistro tables and an open kitchen upstairs but the highlight of the space is the basement dining room/bar. We nibbled on some tasty fries and were all salivating at the dishes coming out of the kitchen - this is the type of place where I could roll in solo and grab a burger and a couple of beers at the bar without feeling like a total loser. Well, at least for dining alone.
Five enthusiastic stars. Now this is a neighborhood spot where I can see myself becoming a regular.

Since my initial visit I’ve become a bit of a regular at La Trappe…the owner’s are fantastic (they even reserved their lounge for my birthday happy hour) and I love all of the beer suggestions! Good stuff, definitely check it out next time you’re in SF.
