Since early 2011 The Star & Dove has been probably the best real ale pub in Bristol (apologies to The Cornubia) several guest ales and excellent bar food as well. Not cheap but very much worth it. Very soon we’re promised that the restaurant will be open to supplement the original & beautifully done ‘kitchen’ menu. Can’t wait – might then give it the 5th Star (espeically if they include a range of local ciders).
Again over priced for the area, limited drinks and the staff where arrogant with poor service, I for one will not be returning in a hurry!
Very over priced for what's left of a former lovely restaurant. We had a good experience in November 2008 and tried it a few times since, but new owners took over and it's gone down hill very quickly. Please do not go there. We had to wait for an hour (with two small childeren) in a dodgy looking family room. They forgot to bring us the bread and olives we ordered. When after an hour only half of the food showed up it consisted of strange looking cabbage, 2 potatoes and a tiny piece of overcooked Duck / fish. Price of a main was on average £13 (you have to order at the bar ). We were told that the main for the other half of our party was not available anymore. Another table (who came in later than our party - did get our dishes that were so called 'unavailable'). When we asked for a refund as we did not want to eat with half the party having nothing the staff was offended, argued that the two dished we did get were good. We ended up asking for a refund and only got money back for the food (so not even the drinks). Very poor service as 'sorry indeed seems to be the hardest word', and hugely over priced for what you get. I would not be surprised if these 'new owners' will go out of business shortly.

A party of 10 of us had Sunday
lunch here a couple of weeks ago. Food arrived randomly with about half an hour between the first and the last main course. When it did arrive it was stone cold.
Kids chicken was baby chicken with tiny bones.
Staff were nice, but even under new management they still haven't got their act together. I mean come on. How difficult can it be!?
One of the best places in Bristol to eat, drink and relax. I haven’t eaten in the restaurant yet, but I’ve eaten in the bar a few times and the food was amazing.
I’m getting hungry just thinking about it. Looking forward to trying to restaurant soon. Really good selection of ales and ciders too.
Great service. Nice place to relax at the weekend
