The King's is a fantastic theatre the heart of Albert Road and Southsea. A must visit and even better now that it has had extensive rejuvenation. Support your local theatre.

By Stageman44,
Saw Lisa Riley in Aladdin at Kings in Portsmouth this Christmas. Great panto. She's been made a patron of the Kings too!

What a stunning piece of Portsmouth history! There was talk of pulling this old place down, but with support of the King’s staff and the local community, it still stands.

Open to a wide range of shows, including panto, ballet, theatrical (Circus of Horrors for eg), this is the place to go for a old-time experience.

Such a beautiful theatre should be used more by it’s community, but huge huge kudos to the staff for doing what they can with limited resources. I’ll certainly be showing my support again soon.

An absolutely gorgeous old theatre (over 100 years old), it has been restored to its former glory not too long ago and looks fantastic. The annual pantomime is great fun and a must for all the family. I think that they should try to attract bigger stars though to make it an even bigger hit. This lovely theatre is in a easily accessed place, buses run past very regularly but parking can sometimes be a problem.

For the past six years every December i visit this place for the christmas pantomime and i have never been disappointed. It has been refurbished and is kept clean and in good order but it is an old building! parking is a pain, there is not a carpark so leave in good time or use public transport which is probably the best option.

The Kings Theater is a lovely building inside, but I think it needs more supporters so that it can attract more top name stars and productions.

If you can judge a place by the celebrity of the “stars” in it’s panto then I’ll let you take a look at the king’s website to judge for yourself!

That said I really wouldn’t put this Theatre down, it is a great place and would be missed if it wasn’t there. It’s fantastic to still be able to take the kids to a traditional Panto at Christmas, oh yes it is - oh no it isn’t!!!!!

This is a fabulous old theatre that is over 100years old. It has recently had extensive work done on it and has been been restored to its former glory. The ceilings are magnificent as is the ambience of the theatre.

There is a good range of entertainment throughout the year with family entertainment to Opera on offer.

The annual Pantomime is spectacular and because the theatre is so gorgeous it attracts many of the bigger stars.

A wonderful theatre that is well worth a visit.

A fantastic old theatre which needs the support of the local community badly. It is beautiful inside but last time i went there, it looked in great need of refurbishment. I love the christmas pantos and go there every year with my family. They bring in some reasonably known celebrities, such as soap stars. The children have a great time though. You can fill up on sweets, ice cream and any number of glowsticks. Please go here if only once, just to see how beautiful it is inside. It’s something that Portsmouth should be proud of!

the Kings is just how you’d expect a theatre to look, it’s really lovely inside. I recently attended a bit of a variety show and it’s great to be able to see so much local talent in such a beautiful venue. As other reviewrs have mentioned it needs our support and I always get a bus or taxi there!

I always feel guilty that I don’t make the effort to visit the kings theatre as much as I would like to. If it had been allowed to go to ruin I would have been very sad, so I think we need to remember that it needs visitors like us! There’s quite an eclectic range of shows on I really enjoyed seeing the Circus of horrors there years ago, it was a great setting for it. As mentioned if you drive you will need to leave plenty of time to find somewhere to park (if you are not local you may find it a pit of a pain)!

I have seen some fantastic plays and shows at this theatre over the years.

Make sure you get there early as you will probably have to park a fair distance from the theatre itself.

very well kept and worth a look.

What a wonderful old theatre this is. It is beautiful inside and the shows they hold are amazing.

The only disadvantage to this theatre is the parking but car share or get early will help. Getting there early you will find plenty of pubs around for a drink.

There was talk about pulling it down but thankfully they have agreed not to.
