Went to see Nickleback here last year, typical sports hall venue, parking & getting out at end of gig can be frustrating as it's all small roads in local vicinity. Gives you chance to relive the gig though.

The Metro Radio Arena is regularly host to many famous national and international acts. The Arena caters for all age ranges, showing everything from “On Ice” shows to popular music acts. The venue is large with plenty of seating, in addition to floor space which is sometimes additionally used for standing audience members.

The Metro Radio Arena attracts most of the big acts to the North East and if you want to see them then you will have to go. However, i don’t think the atmosphere is as good here as at other venues that i have been to. Despite this it is well organised and there are always plenty of staff around to help you locate your seat before the performance and after any breaks when it might be a bit dark to spot the seat numbers! The seating always seems to be well organised although I have never sat in the centre of the arena. The balcony although unrestricted viewing is quite a way back from the stage so the acts do look tiny and I would try and avoid sitting up there again. Whilst I am usually up dancing during the performances, for those who want to remain seating it might be difficult to see as most people do stand up. I noticed this during the summer when there were a few pregnant ladies near me who didn’t really see much. It can also get very hot during music performances (not sure about the ice events) so i’d recommend layers to make sure you are comfortable!
Refreshments wise, it is a bit pricey and everything is served in plastic glasses and bottles although to be honest this is a lot safer all round and isn’t something i would really complain about. The bar area is in the concrete entrance area so again, not somewhere i would choose to go for a nice drink, but it’s ok to meet friends before the show.
I have been to the arena for music performances and basketball matches but it also hosts kids show on the ice which always seem very popular, although i can’t really comment as i haven’t been to any of these yet.
The Arena is fairly central to the centre of town and easily accessible from central station and plenty bus routes. The location means that it is also handy for restaurants and bar although it is near to the Pink Triangle which i know has caught out a few friends of mine who aren’t from the area. Not that this is a problem, it can just cause a bit of a surprise if you’re not expecting it. However, there are plenty of bars around Central Station and on the Quayside which are fairly handy.
I would say overall the arena isn’t the greatest indoor music venue but if you want to see your favourite acts, I suppose you don’t really have a great deal of choice. Just enjoy it!

We went here to see a show last year, it was much bigger inside than I expected. There was a massive queue to get in which took a while, which was annoying as it was pouring down with rain. Anyway when we got in the areas are well labelled so its easy to find your seat. The seats are extremely uncomfortable so we stood most of the time, We couldnt see the stage otherwise anyway as so many people standing infront. The stage itself is quite a big area, which you can see right from the back. The prices of programs, merchandise and drinks and food is a joke. You are better off buying elsewhere. I thought the ticket prices were a bit much as well.

This is probably the best indoor venue for concerts and shows in the north east. Its about a 10 minute walk from central station with ample car parking nearby albeit a bit pricey. There are different seating plans for each concert, the last one I went to was standing with seating around the sides, although if the stage was not in a central position I would not fancy sitting at the back as I feel that this would be a bit far from the action. There are plenty of places to eat and drink inside, although again a little expensive(but all venues around the country will be the same.) It cost £3.50 for a bottle of lager/cider and £3.30 a pint (they dont do half pints). There are plenty of stewards and safety officers around and entering/leaving the building is quite well organised.

This is a great music venue that hosts many of the larger acts that tour the country.
I took my daughter here earlier this year to see High School Music on Ice and she enjoyed it a lot but it wasn’t really my cup of tea! The seats were very good and the view was perfect but i guess they should be for the price i payed for the tickets - £40 each plus booking fee.
The only problem i have with the metro radio arena is the pricing of the food and drinks available in the lobby. I understand that entertainment venues like these always have inflated prices but this was ridiculous, especially as you are not allowed to bring your own bottled water or whatever. With ticket prices so high in the first place they should be much cheaper.

The Metro Radio Arena is the biggest music and concert venue in Newcastle. Primarily it caters towards bands and performances, however it also can hold ice skating events. There is usually a ‘Disney on Ice’ type performance every winter, as well as regular ice hockey matches throughout the year. The arena is close enough to the main train station, and has good, if expensive, parking. Most people choose to park further out and walk to events, or get taxis. There are several concession stands in the entrance selling food, drink and souvenirs, as well as tickets to other upcoming events.

Newcastle Metro Radio Arena (formerly Telewest Arena) is a hugely popular entertainment venue in the north east. It plays host to a massive variety of concerts, shows (comedians, dancing on Ice, Strictly come Dancing etc) and sporting events (ice hockey, basketball etc). All the big acts come to the arena and generally sell out in record time. Bars and refreshments are available inside. Ticket prices again seem to be determined by the popularity of the act, and the booking fees hike the prices up further, however his seems to be the case no matter where you go. The arena has parking, though this can be a nightmare, so is probably more adviseable to use public transport (it is close to Central Station for trian/metro and has bus links too).

The Metro Radio Arena is a large venue a stones throw from Newcastle city centre. Many large acts visit the arena on their tours and although tickets can be expensive it is usually worth it. The arena itself has great facilities inside (many bars and clean toilets) and the acoustics isn’t too bad compared to some other arenas around the country. The staff are always polite and helpful even on an extremely busy night when they’re obviously rushed off their feet. All in all it can be an expensive night with food and drinks thrown in but also an enjoyable one.

This is the best venue in the North East for the biggest music acts and productions such as tours of Strictly Come Dancing, Dancing on Ice and Disney on Ice. There is usually a good range of productions available and something for everyone. Parking is easy enough but expect to pay for it (£6 approx). Refreshments inside are also expensive, especially alcohol however this is no different to other arenas throughout the Country.

The Metro Arena is the one place in Newcastle where all the “big” acts come. Ranging from sport to music to comedy. The seating layout is always changed to the artists need and to ensure that everyone has a good view. I’ve seen a few bands here in the past and it’s always been a pleasant experience. The food is a little bit expensive but it is typical arena food (candy floss, chips, hotdogs, coke ect).

A wide variety of acts come to the arena and the seating layouts are tailored to the particular event. This is good as it means that you always get a good view of the stage. I’ve been to see a couple of different acts at the arena and think that it is a good venue as the sound is always good and it has a good atmosphere. The only down point is that if you are seated on the floor nearer the back, you may not have a fab view of the stage. Food and drink is also quite expensive. Tickets are easy to buy either from box office, over internet or telephone. The arena is out of the city centre but you can easily walk to it and there is a car park nearby, but this is often expensive on event nights.

I have been to many gigs here over the years and they have some fantastic shows on.
It is very easy to get to but be warned the traffic gets very busy there so make sure you allow yourself plenty time to get there and park.
There is a large carpark nearby to park which is a nightmare to get out of when the consert is finished.
When in the Arena there is plenty of bars for you go get your drinks and snacks to eat the hot freshly cooked doughnuts are a must :-)
There is plenty of toilets so you are not waiting very long.
Dont be put off when buying tickets if it says the view is not very good because all the seats are great they are just trying to get you to pay more for tickets.
All the seats have plenty of leg room so there is enough room to boogie if you like.
Overall a good night out with friendly staff and good prices for tickets.
A must is the childrens christmas shows on ice.

The Metro Radio Arena - formerly the Telewest Arena, is a large venue in the centre of Newcastle Upon Tyne. Although large and inpersonal (like many of these kinds of venues) it host a wide array of stars from big singing names such as Diana Ross and Cliff Richard, various comedy acts such as Little Britain, and also sporting exhibitions.
Tickets are generally overpriced, but then I guess you get what you pay for and this pricing issue is one that affects all big arenas not just the Metro Radio arena. They often have special deals on performances that run over a few days, such as cheaper tickets if you go to an afternoon showing rather than a late night one.
I have seen many performances at the arena including Diana Ross, Meatloaf, High School Musical on Ice and Little Britain. I have found that on occasion, my seating location has been less than desirable when you consider how much I paid for my ticket. However, a lot of the time you are able to move seats during the interval if there are spare seats available. In general it is best to sit in the blocks A and B of the flat seating, or blocks 100, 101, 113 and 114 in order to get the optimum view. Although the box office describe some of the side seats in blocks 100 and 114 as 'restricted view’ I have never failed to have a brilliant view from various locations in those blocks.
One thing I must add is that the food and drink are very expensive in the arena! However I have found that during performances aimed at children, they often have special meal deals which are quite decent value. It’s just a shame that they do not provide these for the more adult-orientated shows.
All in all this place has its pros and cons, but I have generally had a good experience at the Metro radio arena and will definitely visit again in the future, should there be a performer who I think is worth paying to see!

the biggest venue in newcastle for gigs.all the big acts play here though i do prefer the academy as it’s more intimate.the bars are situated outside the main arena part.i’ve had many a good time here though.it’s also reasonably easy to get to as it’s not far from the city centre.

good venue to see that big band but is very over priced for tickets drinks and food. biggest problem is that some bands should be playing the academy rather than the arena because they only have one album and are not worth paying £35 to see.
