I personally don't think it's fair to pay additional few pounds for the train ride - It should be all in!

Excellent place for a family day out albeit slightly pricey (but they all are nowadays). Lots to do and see and easy to get to if you live this end of the country.
A huge amount of differing birds, reptiles & mammals to see.
Snacks & coffee etc expensive.
Toilets clean & well maintained.

This is a fantastic zoo. Its a good walk round with plenty to see. Its very open so perfect for a summers day. I would suggest packing your own lunch as the cafes get busy.

Marwell Zoo in Winchester is a fantastic place to visit on a nice sunny day. There are buses which run directly to the park or you could drive there which isn’t too far from the main city of Winchester. When you arrive the staff are friendly and nice and theres a penguin area when you first get there and lots of different animals to see too. Each year they usually transform one area of the park and make it even better than the year before. The last time I went there they had no restaurant but now they have put up a new one and its looks amazing. Definitely a great place to visit with the family or your friends.

I used to go to Marwell Zoo as a child, and I was very excited to go back last year after a twenty year gap between visits. It’s still just as good as it was back then, if not better. The animals are wonderful to see - my favourites were the giraffes (although the giraffe house is very smelly, but you get a real idea of just how tall they are when they’re up close!) and the zebras. There were lots and lots of animals to see. They’re given lots of space, so things are fairly far apart, so be warned if you’re taking small children. The cafes are quite expensive and the food isn’t great but you can easily save money by taking a picnic. I definitely recommend this zoo - it’s a real treat for people of all ages.

Marwell Zoological park is fantastic. It is not a place where bored animals are kept in tiny cages. All the animals are extremely well cared for and you can see that when you visit.
Marwell is a charity that does a lot to conserve wildlife and educate people on conservation issues, they have a number of volunteering opportunities for people interested in working to help them.
From the youngest child to the oldest grandparent everyone will enjoy this day out. It’s impossible for me to choose my favourite animals but I always feel honored if |I manage to visit shortly after new animals have been born.
Marwell has a fantastic website that has a lot of great resources on it.

Marwell just has to be the best Zoo I’ve ever been to.If like me you love big cats then you’ll be very impressed here. They run a conservation programme for the wild cats and they have some pretty impressive specimens, including an amazingly beautiful snow leopard and some fabulous tigers. This is an example of what a zoo should be like and they show that animals can be kept in confinement and still be happy and well cared for.If you only ever visit one zoo visit Marwell and know that your admission fee will be put to good use as well as giving you a fabulous day out.

Good day out for the whole family. Learn about conservation up close. Meet Giraffes on the viewing deck. Lots of animals to see but the cafe is still being built.

I visited Marwell Zoo with family earlier on in the year and it made for a fantastic day out for us all. I would suggest getting there as early as you can because we were stood in a queue for some time before we could enter but after that it was all go. The animals were brilliant… I especially liked the big cats and the snow leopard especially. My daughter loved going on the train and enjoyed seeing all the different lemurs.
The food outlets were good, if a little pricey (as is always the way with these places) but all in all we had a brilliant day out.

A friend of mine recommended Marwell Zoo to me. He suggested I take the kids during one half term.
The location is easy to find and there is plenty of parking.
The queues to get in weren’t too bad and the prices were pretty average for a zoo.
There is plenty to do and the zoo is spread out across a large site. There are regular tractor rides (land trains) with various pick-up points around the zoo so if your feet get tired you don’t have to walk everywhere.
I’d suggest taking your own food as there are plenty of picnic benches around the zoo to enjoy a spot of lunch. If that’s not your thing there are also several food places on site.
There is a miniature railway that runs regularly around the zoo and is not that expensive.
The zoo is not massive but you can spend the whole day there and get to see everything.

I have a soft spot for this Zoo. I have been going to this Zoo ever since I was a little girl… Last year my previous little charge came for a holiday and I took her here too and she was delighted with it. There is so much to see and do and the train which periodically stops around the site is very welcome when you have been on your feet all day in the hot weather! We thoroughly enjoyed our day out and looking at the various animals especially the unusual ones. The pygmy Hippos were the cutest… But we got to see the tigers and giraffes and the usual animals too. It has changed so much over the many years and to it’s credit. I shall continue to visit for the next ** years too I have no doubt. Will try to upload a few pictures of our visit…

I love Marwell Zoo, I nearly spend once or twice a year going there. I don’t have the ability to drive there but there is a bus that runs on sunday which takes you directly there. Once your there, there is lots of animals to see.

Brilliant day out but make sure you give yourself enough time to see everything. If you’re planning on walking the park it takes a good 4 hours or so but is well worth it. The animals are fantastic and all look in amazing condition, they’re also all very active with the odd exception so you get to see them all properly rather than hiding under trees etc.
It’s a family experience with educational zones, eating areas, and land trains. However, I’ve been a number of times with my wife and it’s just as good for the older visitor who just enjoys the park for what it is - a great opportunity to enjoy seeing incredible animals.
For those that aren’t fans of zoos or animal parks for ethical reasons then Marwell is a great example of the good they do. The animals all have expanisve areas in which to roam whilst the breeding plans are clearly working with new additions on every visit.
I personally love the monkeys but the limas are worth a visit, a really interactive experience as you walk through a glass corridor in their exclosure. Also make sure you leave time to see the Snow Leopards at the end of the visit (if going clockwise around park), they always have a big crowd but are spectcualr looking animals.

Marwell is on the outskirts of Winchester, it has ample free parking and its an easy walk from the parking to the zoo entrance. The zoo itself is not the biggest, but means you can see everything on one trip. The tigers are worth the entire entry fee especially if you’re lucky enough for them to come right up to the glass. The giraffes are beautiful to watch, Marwell houses several of them and you can wander down the narrow path through the giraffe house which smells rather like a horse stable! There’s a petting zoo for younger children, always a hit! There is also a train which takes a tour of the zoo, but ita at an extra cost and has never appealed to me! The food is rather expensive and not that great, but there are plenty of places to stop to eat so it’d be worth taking your own food. The gift shop is however worth a visit, reasonably priced goods, some Marwell branded and lots of animal related items! There is something for everyone at Marwell, from Penguin feeding time - where you can watch the Penguins swimming from the underwater viewing area, to the lemurs who sunbathe in a warm corner it is a good day out.

Marwell zoo is set in a beautiful location just outside Winchester near Colden Common.
The animals are mostly all kept in huge enclosures, and are always exceptionally clean.
It is great for young children and adults alike - we often meet there for family get togethers.
If you walk all the way aroudn you may get complaints of tired legs, but there are land trains which will take you on certain routes.
One of my favourite areas is the penguin house - I could sit and watch them for hours.

A lovely day out with the kids especially when the weather is nice. The zoo is pretty big to walk around or catch the train or land train to have a look around.
