Snobby, pretentious and patronising, they thoroughly lived up to the affectation of their name. It was as if the staff had wholeheartedly committed themselves to impersonating the behaviour of cartoon, stereotypical, Parisian waiters (the only thing missing being the accent).
Avoid, unless you are someone who thinks hanging around in places where you feel belittled proves that you have finally made it.

You like cheese, you go here, understand?
An amazing selection, and the staff sure know their stuff.
I can highly recommend their tasting nights, as well as having fun you’re sure to learn a lot… I Will be going to more!

Fun and intelligent service combined with the best cheese you will ever taste. A cheese platter has original and interesting ones to try (not the usual brie, cheddar, etc). I had one that tasted like a cloud!! The atmosphere is great to to just hang out and have a conversation (unlike the overly loud pubs where you leave witha sore throat). Macaroons were way overrated and overpriced. But everything else there is superb with phenomenal quality.
It is simply my favorite place to eat in Brighton.

Do you love cheese? Well if you do even the smallest amount you are going to adore this place.
The staff are superb and really know their stuff. The cheese selection is exceptional. It’s a heady mix of English, French, Spanish etc with charcuterie, biscuits, pastes etc. Check out the Lancashire Bomb it’s not to be missed and the Buffalo Blue is stunning.
These cheese are not cheap, but they are worth every penny.
We attended one of their tasting evenings last year and that was a real treat too. I just can’t pass by the place if it’s open……

Three of us went in for lunch and a glass of wine. We were given a selection of cheeses and charcuterie, which the waiter explained to us.
Oddly, although there were three diners, each piece of cheese was cut into two halves, which made distribution very difficult. We questioned this with the waiter, who told us that this was the way he had been told to present the food. He had trouble seeing the difficulty in diving two (incidentally very small) pieces of cheese between three people. We let the matter drop in the end, as it was going nowhere!
Everything was delicious, but the portions were absolutely tiny and in no way could the selection be described as anything approaching a meal. I'd describe it as 'nibbles' - and skimpy ones at that. Not worth £10 per head, but the flavours were divine.
The shop has a fantastic selection of lovely food, and it is not too hard to find someone knowledgeable to advise on your purchases. Would not eat there again, but it is a lovely place to treat yourself to some take-away delights.

Cheese is my favourite thing in the world ever, so this review may be a little biased as a result. But WOW! I've been here a few times now, twice to eat in and twice to take away and each time has been a real pleasure.
On the times I've stayed to eat at La Cave it's been quiet but there's a friendly, relaxed feel to the eating area. You can ask for a selection of cheese and meat with a couple of glasses of wine and you're good to go. Perfect for a light meal with friends.
However, what I love doing most is getting a mountain of cheese and meat to bring home. I'll tend to walk in with a budget, describe how many mouths I need to feed and then enjoy sampling all the incredible cheese and meats they have on offer. The service here is amazing - they're very patient and happy to let me wander around for a while just tasting different variations. The staff here seem to really know their stuff and if something doesn't taste right to me they will generally have some recommendations of what will. It makes for a fun dinner to bring back and enjoy with friends, and they also sell crusty bread and a variety of wines to go with your food.

It's just a shame that this fromagerie doesn't smell a little bit more - the lack of odour makes it seem a bit artificial.

If you love cheese, wine and chartcuterie then this is the place to go.
Really knowledgeable staff (chap with moustache) who on my visit went the extra mile with excellent service.
