2 reviews of Glo Bar in English
I’ve never eaten in Glo Bar so can’t review the food or it’s staus as a restaurant, however I’d thoroughly recommend a night out dancing in the basement bar.
Glo itself is a glass-fronted smart and stylish bar, with a huge range of speciality beers and ales as well as the usual wine and spirits. It’s clearly been decorated and marketed with a young (or young at heart), trendy crowd in mind.
I’ve been to a number of different music nights here: I would recommend checking out the web or the local Metro paper to see what is on but nights range from funk and soul through hip hop, drum and bass to dub step, reggae and house.
The upstairs bar is usually pretty busy in the evening, you can settle down on the sofa’s for a chat or venture downstairs where they clear the tables back in the evening and you can either sit on one of the long seats at tables round the edges or get involved on the dance floor. I’ve found it a little hit and miss in terms of how busy it is - however, some of the quieter nights have been the best in terms of having lots of room to break out the dance moves. I’m a big lover of funk and soul and was really lamenting the lack of great funk nights here when I first moved from Manchester - Glo bar was the first place I found that ticked my funk box.
The staff are friendly and I’ve always found the bouncers to be really friendly and nice - which is a factor in some of the more stylish bars when the bouncers seem to think they hold the key to the magic kingdom… (or something like that!).
Glo isn’t what you’d call a homely comfortable bar - it’s cutting edge and electric. DJs play on the weekends and they host guest dj’s like Goldy Looking Chain etc. The music they play is modern, fresh and eclectic and the choice of drinks is varied and unusual. The food is great - really tasty stuff - and this makes for a perfect after-work place to go. I doubt many people stay all night, but for an afternoon treat, glo is perfect.
