I miss chips'n'gravy - why does nobody in London do chips'n'gravy?

Accidentally we passed the restaurant and thought…let’s have some F&C.
There was a little queue, but we were quickly seated. The food was great, I had a grilled codfish and homemade chips.
I loved the interior design…good taste :-).
Service was helpful and quick.
We will be back.

I had a sausage and chips in here with my Ma and it was rather pleasant. Fish looked good too but I felt like having a true regression meal of sausage, chips and a coke.
We also ordered some curry sauce. Being a northerner by blood I do like my curry sauce, but my goodness this was awful. Chip shop curry sauce is meant to be tacky but the only places who seem to get it right are Chinese fish and chip shops.
Still everything else we had was lovely. Service friendly and I did like that people were dressed in a retro way. For this area it's nice to have a proper chippy that gives you massive portions and a good healthy dose of nostalgia in every bite.
But in a southern way. They can't get the curry sauce right.

I've yet to find decent mushy peas / gravy in London. Such a shame :-(
They've done a good job, I thought, as it's a brave move opening around here to the potential chorus of hipster mocking. I had a homemade fishcake and chips yesterday and it was a rather enjoyable scoff, served in mocked-up vintage newspaper sheets to heighten the retro experience. The chips were perfectly cooked and at £1.50 for a portion, and £3 for the fishcake, and I can therefore report that no liberties appear to be being taken.
The inside decor reminded a bit of Happy Days, but to be fair I wasn't wearing my glasses. And I also felt sorry for the poor fella outside who despite having the most honourable job of cleaning up any litter that their takeaway service generates, has been given a work outfit that basically looks like they've covered him head to toe in glue and then rolled him mercilessly around in newspaper.
Fab looking interior with '50s stylee waitresses. However, as the place is new I think they are still sorting out their processes....chips were undercooked and fish was good but not great. Staff were nice, hope they get it together!
