6 reviews of Azad Manzil in English
Excellent and good value curry house in Chorlton - no need to go to Rusholme. Staff (particularly the owner) are always exceptionally friendly and greet my wife and I like long-lost relatives.
We eat here regularly - a meal for two with poppadums and a few beers rarely comes to more than £30.
Karahi, balti and makhani are all excellent.
Not sure where we went wrong, but in contrast with these reviews I found the food at Azad Manzil's to be overpriced, luke warm, and not very tasty. The whole experience got worse when we came to pay, and inadvertently offended the maitre d, who thought that our "tip" (which was the 5p change we couldn't be bothered to pick up) was a race motivated insult.
Despite the criticism, and the race misunderstanding aside, the food at Azad Manzil's was "okay" - definitely not the worst I've had.
So, I certainly won't be going again myself. I can highly recommend the place next door though, in my opinion Asian Fusion offers by the far the best curry in Chorlton.
We went with a small group of just 8 of us for a freind's farewell before they moved out of Manchester. The meal and restaurant could not have been a better choice even if we had known what to expect before hand. The atmosphere was so nice, the owner obviously genuinely cares about the quality of his food.
As it was quite quiet and we were obviously a group of good friends he asked if we wouldn't mind if he tried something new out with us. His new idea was to cook one of our curries right there at the table and it worked brilliantly well. He cooked one of the dishes right in front of us and really made the night something special.
If you are a good group of friends wanting a nice meal with something a bit different then I would certainly recommend this place ... and would certainly ask whether he would cook something at the table
Going to a great curry house like this makes you wonder why you bothered with Rusholme’s “curry mile” in the first place.
On the handful of occasions I have been there it has always been a civilised atmosphere, the food has always lived up to the restaurant’s previous billing of 'Curry House of the Year’ and the staff have always bust a gut to help you.
I agree with ruthhunter about that 'liquor’ at the end, though….
A really cosy and reasonably priced curry house. lovely garlic naans and the bhajis taste great.. This is full most nights, so book if you dont want to be disapointed.
This curry house in Chorlton is better by far than any on the curry mile in Rusholme. Its the same price if not cheaper as well. Really nice curries ad amazingly freindly staff. The waiter was quick to point out that they were runners up in the North West curry competition (I think this is what it’s called) and get out the trophy! All in a very friendly way and not over bearing. Have been to this place loads if times and the only place anyone should go for a curry in south manchester. Unpleasant free ‘liquor’ at the end of the meal! Nice hot towels as well.
