Zenxi

Went with a party of 8, the decorations gave the restaurant and the atmosphere a unique twist. The moment we walked in, we were warmly welcomed by friendly and smiley staff. The menu contained an interesting range of dishes, my personal favourite was the duck salad. Even the drinks menu was very accommodating for the kids, they had non-alcoholic cocktails!
The food was delicious and it was accompanied by the friendly manager, Victor, who made sure we were comfortable throughout our time there.

Will definitely be going there again!!

Definitely must-visit restaurant!

Went here Friday 25th March 2011 for my birthday with 4 other friends. First impressions were amazing with gorgeous decor and clean crisp white table cloths and a pianist playing. We sat down and ordered cocktails and ordered our food which we said we DID NOT want til we had had our cocktails. Over 10 minutes later still waiting for the drinks. We also asked for some prawn crackers and still waiting for those. Then the starters arrived even though we still hadnt got our drinks, we said we didnt want them yet and she said "they are here now", we said to please take them away til after our drinks, she said she would "keep them warm" we asked that they were not kept warm but fresh ones provided. Drinks eventually arrived (not the greatest Mojito ever). The prawn crackers arrived (more like thai crackers). The starters were fine and the duck was also fine - standard chinese. Then came the main course...the sweet and sour was ok but the meat was more like crispy balls of fat, the off putting part were the added strawberries and lychees, a small bowl of rice between five and the worst dish I have ever had in a chinese...this beef in some sort of oyster/black bean sauce...well I say beef - was supposed to be. It was clearly not any part of a cow ive had before and seemed reconstituted, a friend described it best as saying it was like kebab meat but worse - vile. The prawns on their own from the king prawn dish were the best part. Its not cheap either as with drinks was around £235 (for sub standard chinese). I believe you are paying for the surroundings as it is lovely. Such a shame the main part (the food) is so bad. I will not be recommending. If they got the food and service right this place would really work.

Had lunch there this week - atmosphere is great, there is nothing else like it in Chelmsford, you need to go to London to get anything comparable. Food was excellent and service just right. For me, by far the best restaurant in Chelmsford - I'm going again tonight!

food was fantastic, the service was great and i will be goin back there for a second try and found that there was many places to park with a 2min walk to the resturant.

We have eaten at Zenxi the food was amazing, simply beautiful and mouth watering. The service was second to none, we spent a few hour there and was not rushed of our table, definitely a place for a nice evening out.

We were recommended by friends to visit this restaurant which they said had the 'London' feel. They were right. We were very surprised by the high standards.

The design of the restaurant is modern and I thought the piano was a very nice touch. Together with the outstanding food and service made it the best chinese we ever had.

I would highly recommend this to anyone!

Fantastic! Thoroughly enjoyed our evening with friends on Thursday . Loved the decor with the piano playing in the background, so relaxing. The staff were attentive but did not rush us, the food and wine was delicious. This restaurant will definitely help put Chelmsford on the map! Have already booked to go again

We visited Zenxi this Saturday, it was packed, the atmosphere was great, a gentleman was playing the grand piano, people having cocktails and lots of laughter…

We where swiftly shown to our table where we sat for a couple of hours enjoying the live music with the best oriental food we have ever had…defiantly would be back.

After arriving at 8.20pm for our 8.30 table we then waited over an hour to be sat at our table.
The main course finally arrived after many complaints at 10.50pm.
No amount of fancy decoration can make up for the truly appaling service.

Excellent food, nice varied menu. A very classy restaurant complete with automated grand piano! Part of the Hoyzen group of restaurants, the quality is high and surroundings are excellent. However the service is a let down, very slack laid back staff, we booked a table for 9.15 and our main course arrived at 11.15. Without any apology from the manager. The English waitress's had no idea as to the menu content and had to refer to their managers constantly. The service and lack of parking reduce this to a 3 star. A real waste, however easily the best restaurant in Chelmsford. Give it a try if you have a couple of hours to kill.
