I think this pub is great, it ticks all the boxes for me.
Good food, great ales, football, cool music, beer garden and efficient staff.
Highly recommended
This place has the best beer garden I have managed to find in London - really big and spacious and surrounded by greenery.
The pub itself is bordering on average - nice and comfortable surrounding but nothing that really wows you. Having said that, it was fine for a couple of drinks and a chat.
I wasn't too impressed with the drinks prices - £4.50 for a bottled cider - ouch!
Really like the spacious feel and friendly staff. Great tea and coffee prices(ok I know this is a pub). Food spot on for the money. Only problem is getting the other half off the pinball, table football and pool table, which offer distractions but aren't intrusive. The real fire was a hit with me over winter with it snowing outside.
Speaking as an occasionally "poncey" thirtysomething, I can thoroughly recommend this pub. But joking aside, this is a lovely place to catch up with friends for a relaxed drink on a road that can be a bit hit-and-miss. It's particularly welcoming in winter, when the log fire is roaring, there's a pool table in the main bar and a good selection of drinks.
Not bad, not bad. Just 1 ale on unfortunately as they had run out of Tribute (seems to a popular drink up here in Stokey!) but the Doom Bar was alright.
Managed to get a comfortable seat on a sofa by a roaring fire (well…growling quietly might be closer to the truth), which is most welcome at this time of year. Unfortunately this was also near the toilets so a whiff of cleaning product was apparent every time someone had a call of nature. Worth it for the seat though…I’ll come back here!
The proper introduction to Stokey and it’s community. This is where they invariably all gather at some point. Live DJs of a weekend with an array of music from old classics to minimal beats filling the spacious bar. The summer sees the garden awash with families and sun bathers getting giddy with alcohol fuelled sunstroke or the more energetic trying their hand at bowls, pints in hand. Or chowing down on the weekend barbeque. And even with the colder weather the place thrives with late-ish closing, good music and plenty else to keep you entertained if you run out of conversation with the pool table and the table football. The food is not the best and not really very inspiring but its not expensive and historically we never went to the pub to eat did we?! I’m glad the White Hart hasn’t gone gastro and has decided to focus it’s attentions elsewhere.
This pub is gentrified, which may be a good or a bad thing depending on your taste in pubs. Mostly thirty-something clientele, some might say typically self-conscious poseurs, and certainly a very different crowd than the Rochester Castle further up the High Street. There’s DJs some nights, a fairly late licence. As I understand it they do food that I have not eaten and cannot comment on. All in all not a bad boozer, they’re not aiming too high and do what they do very well to match the expectations of their customers. Recommended for a Stoke Newington pub crawl for sure.
Purely as a drinking pub, this place is pretty good - more so in the summer when you can enjoy the excellent beer garden, which is a real treat in London.
I usually come here for the beginning of the football season to enjoy a few pints watch the football and then spend the rest of the afternoon / evening in the garden.
I haven’t ordered food off the menu from the pub, but have had their barbecue when it has been on, which wasn’t too bad and fairly decent value.
In the winter, I visit less often, but that’s purely because I have alternative winter pubs to frequent and no reflection on this place, which is spacious and comfy.
Definitely worth dropping in, and one of the better pubs in the area.
The best outdoor seating I’ve seen in London.
Seriously this place has it’s own park out the back. I guess that makes it a little bit like a summer pub. Otherwise it’s not a bad sort of a space. Seems a trendy place amongst your younger 30 somethings. Beer and food are pricey, as you would expect, but not overly so. The couches are comphy, the staff are friendly and I do like places that still have old pinball machines. The chalk board above the urinal suggests a playful attifude from the management.
years ago it was packed like many pubs, now ok but food expensive, and drink, staff not very welcoming.but its nice to play pinball.
