Baiter park ideal place and go and fly your kite. Sometimes has a snack van there. toilets are close by. Parking is available though busy times can be hard to find..
Baiter, to me and many others, has always been 'Baiter’, but some blow ins have started calling it 'Baiter Park’, or suggesting that I live at Baiter.!!
I have the privilege of living just on one side of the Quay and three minutes walk from Baiter.
We love going to Baiter! It is reclaimed land, laid to grass with a path by the water. On a warm/hot calm day it’s really quite bliss to wander along, but look out for cyclysts and groups walking four or more abreast. On a breezy day it’s like a gale force, and on a cool day, well, it’s freezing! This is be cause it’s exposed to the open sea.
Many people come here to fly kites, you can see them for miles, and a more select group do power kiting. This is when you tie your body to a inflated kite, and your feet to a skate boardy thing and let the wind do the rest. Some folk whizz along the grass, which is fairly bumpy, and others go up in the air, and fall out of the air when the wind pleases.
Half way along the path is a launching area for windsurfers and small sailing craft. It’s often nice to stand and watch, and remember that one still hasn’t replaced the road trailer for ones own craft.
I once watched two grown men in a Dart, trying to brave a hooley. I knew they’d capsize…
A bit further and you’re geographically in Whitecliff. There is a small childrens park and after passing a cut through to Poole Park, you soon arrive at Whitecliff recreation ground.
This is a good place for the less ambitious kite flyer, and cricket gets played here.
Part of Baiter accommadates the annual fair, some music events, and all of it becomes part of the route for the charity races.
A fantastic open space!
