I am a huge fan of Cafe Junior, Zoe and staff do a brilliant job and we go so often now that the staff know what coffee I drink…..oops ;)
The cafe is very friendly, packed full of toys and things to entertain the little ones. We started going whilst doing a baby sign class and stayed afterwards and my little one loves it so much we go now even though our baby sign class has finished.
They have a regular change of the toys, with the recentish addition of some little houses that the children seem to love – try getting my daughter out of them and you can hear her screaming on City Road!!
Coffee is lovely, freshly made and served with a smile – ALWAYS!
Went in there today to meet a friend and left an hour later as I had to meet hubby but my daughter had lots of fun. I cannot recommend the place enough. I am even going to get annual membership which is a superb price and will save me lots (and give me more of an excuse to visit),…..
Bye for now, see you again next week no doubt :)
We visited for the first time in nearly 3 years today. My three year old really enjoyed herself, and there were toys for the baby (6 months) too. The entrance price was very reasonable in my opinion, and the staff were very nice. Coffee and food was a good price and quality too. Overall, this is so much nicer than soft play, and the toilets were clean!
My first experience of this place was today. My partner and I have a 9 month old, also with us was my friend and her partner, they have a 3 and 5 year old and her friend & hubby who have a baby the same age as ours. My friend reserved a table for us for her 3 year old's birthday(If you have a party of 10+ kids you can book a room). You need to be buzzed in to the building and then there is the addition of a security gate after that. You buzz yourself out, the buzzer being at adult hight, so the initial feeling was this place is pretty safe. I only saw the main hall whilst I was there, it consists of a gutted church hall with some sofas, chairs and tables and a small coffee shop in the corner, all open plan. 60% of the 60x25ft space(rough guess) is taken up by the children's play area which is packed full of toys and kept the kids with us occupied pretty much for the full 3 hours we were there. I had a nice cup of coffee and didn't notice anyone being asked to leave as mentioned in other reviews below. Frankly I couldn't figure out how they make any money as the place must cost a fortune to heat before you even start to look at other overheads. I did notice the flooring on a couple of the play gyms was quite grubby but it didnt seem to bother anyone else, I think this sort of thing maybe only bothers couples with their first child. We had to call for someone to get served when we first arrived but all in all I would say we had a pretty positive experience from the place. Another nearly but not quite 4 stars for me but I will go back and update my review.
zblackler Hi there, thankyou for taking the time to add feedback. I'm the new owner of Cafe Junior, and just wanted to let you know that I completely agree about the flooring, and we're having a re-furb in February - there'll be a dedicated baby area and a dedicated area for over 5's, as well as our huge open plan toddler play area. We've also added a Friday evening Bistro, for people to have a 'grown up' meal whilst we keep the kids entertained!

I went to cafe junior with a friend and was amazed at the sheer brilliance of it. We have a similar place in Kingston which is not a tenth as good. Excellent play facilities, super food and coffees and an easy system for knowing what time you need to leave… We found the staff corteous and helpful. Wish we lived in Cardiff so we could visit more often! My 2 boys were kept entertained for the full 90 minutes. I’d definitely recommend this.
Unfriendly. Unwelcoming. Average food. Overpriced. Nowhere to park.
We arrived at Cafe Junior at 2.30 and were given a badge with our arrival time. All around the venue are signs telling you that your visit is limited to 90 minutes maximum. 80 minutes into our visit (and, incidentally, a couple of minutes after my husband had gone to take our toddler to the loo before we left) one of the waitresses came over and made it clear to me that we would shortly have out-stayed our welcome. This was despite the fact that there were four empty tables immediately next to ours. I can’t imagine they would have a rush of visitors at 4pm on a Saturday afternoon.
It isn’t the first time I have been unimpressed with the attitude of the staff at cafe junior; but it will be the last time as I certainly won’t be visiting again.
If you are looking for a venue which makes paying customers feel welcome, do not go to Cafe Junior.
Pleasant decor. Unpleasant staff.
zblackler Hi,
I am the new owner of Cafe Junior - we took over a month ago and have to say thankyou for this feedback - the first thing we did was remove the stickers and the time limit, the next was to embark upon staff recruitment and training. We have many ideas for improvements to the Cafe Junior experience - please do come back in and ask for Zoe and I'd be delighted to greet you and show you the changes we have made.
Thankyou again!

This is a truly fabulous child friendly cafe just outside Cardiff. It boasts excellent coffe and food in a lovely building. The cafe is packed to bursting with activities for little ones including dressing up costumes, a reading corner, huge blackboards for scribbling on and lots on ride on toys. They also cater for childrens parties which must be wonderful! The staff are incredibly helpful and patient, especially when you have a child who can’t make up her mind! The toilets are clean and well maintained and the only negative aspect is that parking is difficult in the area. Be prepared to walk a bit!
As the name suggests this is a wonderful cafe for children (under 5’s) and their parents. Housed in a converted church, this is a really nice airy space with a very relaxed feel to it. There is an entrance fee which applies to both parents and children, but the under 1’s go free. For the children there’s a wide choice of interesting toys to play with (holz toys etc.), a babies corner and plenty of comfy sofas & chairs to choose from. The cafe serves the usual coffees, cakes and pannis plus a lovely childs’ food menu. Often there are advertisements for 'baby yoga’ or 'sing & sign’ type sessions which are also held within the building.
