Not a massive area, but big beds of nettles and some trees mean the deer are afforded a fair amount of cover and variety of different spaces. Which is great for them, but does mean they can be hard to spot! Also surrounded by high netting fences.
If you want a more natural experience of course you go to Bushy or Richmond Parks. But I’m sure kids who do get to spot the residents here won’t be disappointed.
The other week I was passing here as a teenager apparently asked a nearby mother if the animals were kangaroos. She said yes. After a moment I told him (with a smile to her), that she was winding him up and they were deer. He looked at me blankly. I think he hadn’t heard of deer. I guess that’s what you get when you have millions of people living in little stacked boxes their whole lives. One hopes that this place will prove its worth by sparking some interest in him.
