Compliment pubking (24-07-2008) •••••
Quick history lesson for you, one of only two round pubs in all of Britain. Also it featured in an episode of the sitcom “the young ones” (series 1 episode 3 titled: Boring) where it was known as the Kebab and Calculator and had Madness performing inside.
This place hasn’t got much else going for it other then the above. There is a reason most pubs aren’t round and that’s because the interior doesn’t lend itself to pub feng shui (ie neatly arranged tables). It’s all a bit hap hazard really.
It was refurbushed at the start of 2008 so it’s fairly clean inside (bar the locals). The drinks on offer are fairly average, a couple of your most basic real ales, Bombadier and Courage last time I checked. It’s also the only pub in Henleaze that serves Staropramen, if that’s your poison.
The food is pretty dreadful but cheap. The staff aren’t great but you don’t have to wait too long to get served.
The one saving grace to this place is the Orpheus over the road. An independent cinema that’s pretty cheap. I would recommend you come here for pre and post cinema drinks.
