Review of Halfords Autocentre - Brighton from 28 October 2012
This garage put my car on the rolling road wrong (too far over one side) and ended up tearing my tyre open and damaging the alloy wheel. They did agree to replace the tyre and pay for the wheel to be refurbished, but if I hadn't been there to see the damage happen, I wonder whether I would've been told what had happened?!
They failed the cars MOT and told me I needed a new CV Gaitor (did I really, i'll never know?). The quote was £180!! I phoned other garages who quoted £65-£75. I was being totally ripped off. After speaking to manager, they price matched the other garage and carried out the repairs, but after repair they put the CV gaitor coupling back on wrong and drove it out the garage, and it started making a noise which resulted in a damaged drive shaft! They put it back on the ramp and took it apart and refitted it correctly. I  then drove the car around for a month with a funny noise (which Halfords assured me was nothing to do with work they'd carried out, and could be my ABS), until one day the car started juddering and vibrating, and I had to be recovered to a local garage who found the fault...which was caused by the CV Gaitor/Drive shaft being put back together incorrectly by Halfords!! £230 later, and having to rely on public transport for 3 days, I am not happy woman. Off to Watchdog...

I have to concur with negative reviews - I had an okay relationship with the old manager but basically after a free safetu check got the advice to spend £400 on brakes that are fine at least up until the next MOT - I'm switiching to an independent garage where they're not pressured to reach targets etc

If ya have anymore problems with any car go to tyre express in school road portslade. best prices around and a great service. i have never gone there and they have said that my car needs extra work. they have always beaten any other quote that i have (not that they price match) just think they have great prices. plus for MOT’s there is a free retest within 10 days. great place, prices and customer service.

Review of Halfords Autocentre - Brighton from 11 April 2012

Went for an MOT and needed a new rear tyre as the wall was damaged. I agreed to a new tyre and re-test and went for a walk whilst I was waiting. About 10 mins later I received a call from Halfords Autocentre stating that I needed new rear break pads as the ones I have are “completely worn” they went on to say “I don’t know how you’re still driving”. Being a practical kind of person I told them I would change them myself as their £200 estimate seemed a little steep. Later when I went to change the pads I discovered that the old ones were not even half worn! If I were not inclined to undertake these kind of works myself I might have been unlucky enough to take this particular halford autocentre at their word and pay for unnecessary works. If they would have been done at all. Heed the warnings of these reviews. These people are dishonest and should not be trusted. I have since tried contacting Halfords to complain. I have received a standard email stating they are investigating the matter ten days ago. Nothing yet has come of it.

Very disappointed, they were meant to ring me but I went back three and a half hours later as no one called me and for what should be a simple repair he said they would have to order the part for the fan heater..Most of the staff were either standing in the office or together in the garage, there was no sense of management there or urgency, as for some basic understanding and customer service you must be joking, if they had to order a part they could have rang me early instead of waiting around in the rain. I just did not get a sense I trusted what was being said to me and no apology as we had explained the problem in advance when we booked in the job..incidently the fan was only noticed broken after they done the mot the week before..willl be looking for a garage that is well managed and has some customer care skills…….you get the sense they are all coasting along with no sense of recognition for the time off taken and cost spent by customers to go there..in the current climate its poor business management for getting loyal customers…………. bring back the previous garage that was there……..

Halfords Autocentre Exeter.

My car was there for over 9 days for a simple repair (that was not intermittant, so easy to find), car comes back filthy (when it went in gleeming and freshly polished), they broke the power steering on the car by 'shaking the steering wheel vigorously' - to find a fault that was not even steering related.

Although they broke my power steering pump, I wouldn't dare take the car back there to get it 'fixed' for fear of what they might break next!

Avoid this garage if you value your pride and joy.

I recently used halfords autocenter Brighton for an MOT, the service right from the start was unfriendly and unhelpful. There was a small repair which needed doing and I was quoted £180 more than the going rate to fix this (other garages and friends suggested £80). I asked for an explanation and a breakdown of cost which I was refused. The gentleman who served me was rude and very unpleasant, and the establishment were trying to take advantage of the fact I was a young female, they were very shocked when they realised I knew what I was talking about! I would avoid this garage like the plague.
