Review of Plaza de Toros from 7 June 2009

A stark contrast of Classic Spanish bullring with stunning architecture set alongside the blood stained sand. Only 5 euro to get in and you pretty much get to see everything from where the burgers to be are held and corralled to various of their killers over the years with their various costumes etc. A fascinating place and because of the contrast of feelings it had much more of an impact than its’ huge big brother in Madrid. The town itself is worth a daytrip up from the South coast but this place on its’ own would sell it to me

It costs €5 to get in, but it is billed as the oldest bullring in Spain, so if history’s your bag, you won’t begrudge paying less than a fiver to go in. I got as far as reading the plaque outside and admiring the bronze of a mighty bull that stands outside the main entrance. It’s not that i thought €5 was expensive, I just wasn’t comfortable going into a bullring because I think that bull fighting is cruel and unnecessary. The building itself was beautiful and sits at the top of the truly beautiful town of Ronda, which has a deep gorge running through it. If you’re in Southern Spain, it’s well worth the hour winding up the mountain to get there. I suggest hiring a car and having yourself a day trip.
