In the pre-baby days when I only had myself to think about (and feed) I used to spend a lot of time in the Leo. Situated on the Queen’s Dock close to the Albert Dock in Liverpool it is popular destination in the city centre, particularly when it’s after hours and they’re the only place that’s still serving.
The casino is arranged over two floors with a total of 20 gaming tables (roulette, black jack and several variations of poker), 2 cocktail bars and a restaurant which offers the most amazing views of the Mersey. There are also a number of slot machines, one of which is linked directly to one of the roulette tables.
There are poker tournaments every Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday with various buy-in/re-buy levels, although you should check before you go because they do change the days from time to time. One of my finer moments in here was beating 76 stony-faced blokes to win nearly £1500 (which took me to Egypt the following week – nice!). Private tournament for birthdays etc can be arranged to suit your budget.
The restaurant is really nice and is quite well thought of amongst us Scousers. Try the American Breakfast- nothing better at 3am after a few scoops! It can be quite pricey depending on what you order, but if you’re winning then who cares? If you’re not then getting yourself some chips on the walk home is probably a better option!
Only bad thing is the table service which is relatively slow. Unlike the casinos in Vegas where you get free drinks if you are playing, the most you will get out of the Leo is a free coffee, sandwiches or a plate of biscuits (bizarre!). Alcohol comes at a price and a premium one at that. Remember to pass the girls a few chips if you ever want to be served again.
Membership is free but you won’t be allowed in unless they’ve seen your passport or driving licence. The best option is to pre-register on their website and just take your ID with you on the night. Alternatively go with a member who can sign you in.
Dress code is always smart casual although you will see a wide variety from jeans and trainers to suits through to cocktail dresses.
All that is left for me to say is good luck!
