The royal chateau at Chambord is absolutely stunning and really looks like something out of a fairy tale. It is basically a hunting lodge that went madly over budget and was originally built for Francois I. The exterior is magnificent and inside there is the most amazing 'double’ staircase which has to be seen to be believed but is an architectural triumph! The rooms are sparsely furnished but give some idea of a court residence during the eighteenth century.
The surrounding parkland is very lovely as well.
