“Miraggio is one of those excellent family run eateries, which are hard to find. Locals and food critics swear by Miraggio’s authentic Italian cuisine, prepared by Mamma Maria. Miraggio’s exquisite cooking has been noted in the National Press and...” more...
5 reviews of Cafe Rossi in English
I had lunch at Cafe Rossi this week. The food was great, and good value, but the service was incredibly brusque and around me I saw people being hurried out of their tables as soon as they'd finished eating. I felt obliged to leave immediately after finishing my food as it was quite uncomfortable being there on my own. I'm afraid I wouldn't go back.
Having picked up the odd lunchtime sandwich and after work pasta dish from Cafe Rossi I would certainly recommend it on price and portion size, but as far as taste and quality goes I think there are better places in the area. A pile of spaghetti only set me back about a fiver, tasted fine but was nothing special, while an avocado salad ciabatta hit the spot another day but, again, was nothing to write home about.
Being located right in the hubbub of London Bridge the place is understandably rammed every lunchtime, so prepare your air of zenlike calm before you enter!
Cafe Rossi caters for the office lunch trade very well by offering generous portions and good prices and you certainly won't leave hungry, but for a little more attention to detail take a walk down the road towards Borough tube and visit Nelson's.
This place does a hearty portion of spag’ bol! The Turkish guys who own it are really friendly..
This little busy capital boasts one of the best Fry-ips in London. Always busy with cheap well cooked food. A breakfast is only £4.00 and is huge. Enjoyed on many a morning when something is needed to soak up the alcohol.
Cafe Rossi is a lively cafe opposite HSBC bank on Borough High Street. The popular takeaway counter at the front often forms a line into the high street, serving good toasted sandwiches, ciabattas, cold drinks etc.
To the rear there is a small seating area with capacity for 26 people. Here they offer a larger selection of food, including excellent salads (the grilled chicken salad is a personal favourite), baked potatoes, a selection pasta dishes (spaghetti & meatballs also recommended), chilli con-carni, full English breakfast, omelettes, anything from the takeaway menu, and so on. In fact the menu is huge for such a small place, while still maintaining a home made taste.
The quality of the food is good, arrives quickly, and value for money is excellent. In fact most of the main courses are under five pounds.
What lets Rossi down unfortunately is the erratic service. During lunch time it gets very busy, and the staff will often hurry people out of the restaurant as soon as they’ve finished so they can fill the tables again. The orders will generally not arrive together, nor will the waiting staff remember who ordered what, so expect to have to claim your dish as it comes out of the kitchen.
Despite all this, the staff are very friendly, so if you are looking for a quick and cheap lunch and you’re prepared to put up with the chaotic service then Rossi’s is well worth a visit.
