This place should be a must see for any visitor to London. For some reason most London museums are free now so there’s no excuse. From the magnificent entrance which I think used to be at the Savoy Hotel (might be wrong) to the huge plaster casts of italian monuments (victorians were mad keen on taking plaster casts from abroad) this place is a staggering collection of the best that human culture has produced.
My favourite section is the ironwork upstairs, which displays a lot of German stuff from the 16th century which i love. The old musical instrument collections are very nice too, lovely old decorated harpsichords and violins.
There’s a nice picnic space outside the back which has a pond with a little fountain in, very restful after all that history. And i nthe winter they put an ice rink at the front next to a christmas market, so it’s good all year round!

The V&A is one of my favourite places in London. I like to go alone, on rainy Sunday afternoons, and spend ages staring adoringly at the costume exhibits as if I’ve not seen them dozens of times before.

I hear there are other things on show - glass, musical instruments, scuplture, stuff like that - but to be honest I rarely get past the 1947 Dior Couture, unless it’s to go to the cafe in the amazing Morris, Gamble and Poynter Rooms. The V&A is the perfect museum for people who don’t usually visit museums, because the exhibits are beautiful and accessible. You don’t really have to know about art or culture, you just have to recognise beauty.

That said, there’s plenty for the more astute visitor too (and I jest, I have been round the whole place, more than once). Just remember, don’t go during school holidays!

Fantastic. The Museum is child friendly with activities relating to specific exhibits. My children have spent a whole day making musical instruments and masks. The exhibitions vary and have information at differing levels of interest.

The V&A is the greatest museum of art and design, a world treasure house with collections of fabulous scope and diversity. The Museum holds over 3000 years worth of artefacts from many of the world’s richest cultures.
Search for over 27,000 works and over 43,000 images from the V&A’s collections, including ceramics, fashion, furniture, glass, metalwork, paintings, photographs, prints, sculpture, and textiles.
Includes architectural drawings, photographs, whole rooms and parts of buildings.

The most comprehensive collection of British design and art from 1500 to 1900.

This has to be one of my favourite places in the whole world and somewhere I aspire to reside in a lot more in my golden years. Not only is the building gloriously grand, the galleries are places you can while away afternoons quite easily. If you are a teacher, student or other concession all of the exhibitions are free which is something to know – just remember to take along your ID. Exhibitions are consistently good and pretty diverse, collections are interesting and there really is something for everyone – art, fashion, artefacts… Two of the biggest drawcards here though are the fabulous shop where you can get original jewellery which is great for presents as well as the usual books / postcards etc. The second gem is the café, the snacks on offer are good and the meringues second only to my grans but the real beauty is the room you sip your tea in and the chandeliers as well as the clientele many of whom I truly believe lunch here every day.

One of the best museum in London. Even those who don't usually like visiting museums will enjoy this one!
The V&A museum as we like to call it stores several of the most amazing art and design collections in the world. You can discover ancient sculpture, paintings, jewellery, textiles, photographs, furniture, glass, ceramics and metalwork.
Another good point: the entry free... except for special exhibitions.
The V&A has a lot to show, so it's better to choose a maximum of 3 areas to visit. You won't have time to visit the whole museum in one day, particularly if you come with kids.
Enjoy!

Another thing i want to write about this museum is that it has a great shop... wonderful for individual presents... i could spent hours in there looking for example at the old chinese clothing or the chinese art. it has great and unique artefacts.

I love this museum, I think its the best I have been too! I started with the scupltures (mostly British) from the 16th century to to present. They are spectacular and the epitomy of the rennaissance. The fashion exhibition is good if you can get passed the numerous budding fashion designers taking notes.
The middle Eastern part is awesome with the one of the largest and most detailed Islamic carpet as a centre piece. (you have to wait for the lights to turn on.)
I also enjoyed the exhibits from India, Britian again did very well out of colonialism there!
Definitely can't do it all in one day, OH I forgot the plaster casts are something else - spooky!

This museum has plenty of things to see but I would have to say it is more appropriate for adults than children. the reason being that the exhibits includes clothes, china, bed, art, vases. It seems to be more home ware than anything else and therefore may bore kids.

This is my favourite museum in London, it always has the most beautiful exhibitons, for very reasonable prices. My favourite was the recent Kylie exhibition, which was great fun as well as having some gorgeous things on display. If you are not a Londoner and don't know which of the many museums to visit, definitely go to V and A, by far the best.

I'd heard a lot about this museum before I visited and I certainly wasn't let down in any way. The art work it contains is unbelievable and ranges from Japanese art, figures and costumes to Rome and plaster casts of towering pillars. It has a little bit of every country from every era of history ( a slight exageration perhaps but I was honestly that awed by the place!) A definate visit it will kepp you entertained for hours and you will continue to talk about it for weeks afterwards.

The Victoria and Albert has over 2000 items that one can choose as gifts, momentoes, souvenirs. Its a great place to shop for unusual items like replica jewellery which have been inspired by the museum's exhibitions.

There is a excellent collection of William Morris print scarves and glasswork by Dale Chihuly, the creator of the chandelier hanging in the museum's dome.

One of Europe's largest museums, the V&A is a treasure-house of the decorative arts.

Designed to present the best of world art and design across the ages, it houses a bewildering array of objects in a vast, often rather confusing building. Try and 'do' the museum in one go and it will leave you feeling completely overwhelmed.

But don't let that put you off. The best way to visit the V&A is to restrict yourself to one or two areas of personal interest. There are outstanding collections of Far Eastern objects and textiles, European costume, porcelain, silverware, stone-carving, sculpture and furniture, from the mediaeval period to the present day. Amongst the paintings are also hidden some gems, such as Constable's 'Salisbury Cathedral'.

Take your time, and stop off for a coffee as you go - the museum has several cafes.
