i have been to the urmston branch twice now, and have been very impressed. i initially bought a groupon voucher so didnt know what to expect!! however my highlights are fab ,best ive ever had , the staff are great especially christine ,its clean and tidy and i feel very comfortable whenever i go !! Louise
I have been going to the Irlam salon for years. The service is excellent. The prices are good, the cut and colour is always up to standard. The salon is clean and staff are always helpful when I am undecided what to do. Well worth the visit.
Been going to Power Cuts for years. Have visited both salons Flixton and Irlam. Both have great friendly atmosphere. Clean bright and tidy. Have my colour done and has always been great.
Have been using both the Urmston & Irlam branches for years now, and I have to say that both are well run, friendly and professional in the service that is provided. Anybody wanting to go in for the first time should have no worries about being treated in a friendly manner as this is always the case.
All staff are always helpful and accomodating and on this basis I would have no hesitation in recommending to others.
Working in Manchester short term I purchased a groupon voucher to use midweek straight from work – saving Saturdays to spend with my family rather than going local to me.
Bit apprehensive due to the price but hey, I was very impressed. Lovely highlights which the stylist even targeted to my patch of silver on my fringe (sorry to say that not caught name). I had been toying having highlights for a while as normally go for full head colour but advice was given and taken.The salon was steady during my 2 hrs there, lots of activity and a couple of people going upstairs for beauty treatments. Nice cuppa and a good price list compared to Wirral/heswall. Will I be back – yes I will – appointment booked. Regardless of travel time – I will be back

myself and 3 friends travelled over to manchester for the weekend, and we all had our hair done at this salon, not only were we all happy with what we had done, the staff were all very friendly and chatted to us whilst we were having our hair done, we were all offered tea or coffee on arrival, overall we were all very happy and the next time we are over we will definately be back!
I totally disagree with comments left by dandylion84 as I find both salon’s modern, stylish and warm the staff are very helpful and friendley. I have been using the salon for the last 9 years, also use beauty to have my nails done.
I would highly recommend this salon to anyone looking for a good hairdressers in the urmston area.
I have been visiting power cuts for about 7 years, I have my hair Cut, Coloured and Highlighted, I use beauty as well to have my nails and eyebrows done.
I had a baby 5 years ago and he has been having his hair cut at Power Cuts from the age of 5 months and I will never take him anywhere else.
I have recommended this Salon to family and friends who still all use it on a regular basis, in fact my older 25 year old son travels miles on a moped to get to power cuts now he has left home.
The staff are friendly, the Salon is clean and airy, there is free tea, coffee and biscuits.
The place is always busy which is a sign of a good reputation.
This salon has fantastic offers on for new and existing clients, regular vouchers for money off next appointments as a thank you for your custom.
This local business also plays an active part in helping the local community.
I know that we can all have an opinion but I think the bad review below is a bit harsh and as a regular customer I would also say untrue.
Well done to the Managers and staff at both Power Cut Urmston and Irlam for continuing to provide a good quality service.
Oh and thanks to Louise for doing a brilliant job of doing my Highlights and Cut on Saturday.

I have been using power cuts salon since it opened 14 years ago. I love the salon the staff and the service. The prices are amazing!!!!
The stylists are professional and always do a super job on my hair. I would highly highly recommend Power Cuts to everyone of my friends and family. They are the best…. hence my loyalty and satisfaction as one happy customer.
I have visited both Urmston and Irlam salon for many years and can honestly say I have faith & total trust in all the girls. I know I will never walk out with a style or treatment that isn’t right for ME and MY lifestyle they treat each individual as just that & always make you feel an important valued customer even at very busy times. I am always made to feel welcome and there is never any atmosphere which can be very hard to find in hair & beauty salons. There are always incentives & offers on to reward customers. Great team @Powercuts can’t beat them :0)
I am shocked and saddend by the review about power cuts .I have been going there for years , visiting both salons many times winter and summer and i have always found them both to be clean , warm and bright .There are always lots of books ,posters and up todate magazines along with lots of offers and items for sale . I am always greeted with a smile ,tea or coffe and a biscuit . I found the staff to be very professional at all times but at the same time very friendly chatty , helpfull and kind… I love the feeling of having sure a good hair wash and how good it feels after BUT most importantly i have always been more then happy with my hair and never had cause to complain , my cut and colour has always been prefect and i feel for sure that if at any time for any reason what so ever i would have needed to complain about any thing that it would have been put right at once with no fuss at all .( i am not easy to please and if needed to complain would do so at once ) they have always given me good advice on hair care and so on I have been told many times how nice my hair is and asked where i have had my highlights and cut done and i have and always will recommend power cuts to anyone be it young or old .
My whole family have used this salon for a good few years, and would highly recommend them, the girls are always helpful, I tend to go just for a trim and an eyebrow wax but have been advised and reassured in the passed re my middle age hair line. The ladies in the family visit regularly for highlights and restyles and always leave very satisfied with the results, the staff are friendly and very welcoming, would highly recommend
I have been to powercuts a number of times over the years and have always found the staff at the salon to be friendly and helpful, even if its offering a cup of coffee or advising me on what colour or hairstyle to have.
The salon has a lot to offer with its modern decor and welcoming approach from the staff. The service that i have received from the salon have been great and i would highly recommend this salon to anyone looking for a good hairdressers in the urmston area.
This place is aweful. The salon is dated, bare and freezing cold. The staff are rude. I went in for a cut and colour and I wanted a few highlights put in to add a bit of tone. I didn’t get what I asked for. The highlights look cheap and nasty and rather then being just a shade or two lighter than my hair which is what I asked for they are a stark yellow against my dark hair and they don’t even go all the way to the root, there is about 2cm of brown hair from the root to the highlights. The cut is terrible, the worst I’ve ever had, there is no shape to it. Having my hair washed was like torture, the lady was so aggressive that my scalp felt sore and bruised. I will definitely not be going back and I am going to dye the highlights out and get it recut asap. The worst experience I’ve ever had at a hairdressers.

As the owner of the salon I have grave concern regarding your comments, can you explain how the salon is freezing when we have a full heating system? How can you say the salon is bare when there are shelving of stock and pictures all around the salon, can you tell me who the stylist was ? The salon is decorated ever year in neutral bright colours , so how can it be dated? If you felt the hair wash was too vigorous you should have told the person who was doing it, as most people prefer to feel like they have had their hair washed properly rather than tickled with and it still be unclean when it was finished, what happened for you to say that the staff are rude? All my staff are fully qualified and I cannot see how you have a 2cm regroth after having a colour ! All customers are asked how they feel about the finished result. If there was a problem you should of told the stylist there and then, I would be grateful of your feedback

I have always found the staff to be helpful and friendly,the stylist are fully qualified. I have always found the service at powercuts to be superb,

I’m surprised by the number of people who disagree with me. My experience was very different from what has been described by others.
In response to the owner, the salon I went into was red and black, not neutral. It was very bare and it is dark and dreary inside. I don’t doubt that there is a heating system but it was not on whilst I was there. It was very cold indeed. I also apprecite that people want to feel like their hair has been washed thoroughly but you don’t need to cause bruises to do this. There is not 2cm of regrowth on my highlights but 2 cm of root that did not get highlighted. The woman who cut my hair (unfortunately I can’t remember her name), was sullen and moody and did not listen to what I wanted. I should have complained at the time and i was clearly not happy when I left, but I just wanted to get out of the place.
This is my experience of the salon on a snap shot vist, if your salon manages to please some customers, as it obviously does, then you should extend the service to new customers also. Unfortunately for me it fell short of my expectations and I am very disappointed.

I wonder why if Danylion84 felt so strongly and dissatisfied with his/her visit why they didn’t approach the stylist, manager or proprietor and give them opportunity to rectify the situation? I have been in many salons which have more furniture/cluture etc but it’s important to remember that cleanliness it much more important especially when we are talking about somewhere that has a lot of hair cuttings swept daily- one of the things that appeal to me about Powercuts is the fresh clean decor and fact it is very clean, i don’t wanna see other peoples hair in all the snooks & crannies – I feel this negative feedback boils down to personal perceptions everyone’s are different which is fine but to come on a site like this and state how dissatisfied you are without giving the business chance to respond or simply just making them aware seems very unfair. But anyhow it is clear from all the comments Powercuts has many happy customers.. also like to mention that many salons charge for tea coffee etc & many only giver discount offers to new customers & forget the existing – It’s a shame the positives aren’t mentioned enough – Keep up the good work guys :0) see you soon

MrsGaryBarlow may perceive my review as unfair to the business but as a paying customer I think it is unfair to treat customers in the way I was treated. This site is not designed to simply allow people to faun over businesses and give the impression that they are better than they are. I am simply stating my experience, there is nothing personal or offensive in the account I have given just the facts of MY visit to this salon.
I also wonder about peoples standards of cleanliness, the small table I was sat at in the salon had blond hair clippings all over it, not a sign of a clean well run establishment.

Our salon has neutral magnolia walls with the backwash area painted a brighter red, we do not have black painted anywhere, we have bright fluorescent lighting throughout the salon, regarding the 2cm highlight uncovered regrowth, there must be a reason that there is still uncoloured hair, but without seeing you in cannot comment, usual reasons are you have had a full had colour and changed to highlights, you had a toner on or bleach previous and the regrowth is different than usual, and many more reasons, regarding the hair on the side, as you were probably aware, we were very busy and staff down on the day, so maybe we didn’t clean up as quickly and effectively as we usually would , I would like to thank you for your comments and they will be addressed, as you can see, we do have many many happy customers who visit time and time again, I’m sorry that we were not up to scratch for you

As the salon owner, I have been made aware of this situation. As stated in the Groupon voucher 48 hours notice must be given for any cancellation policy. As this deal expires this weekend all vouchers cannot be used after this date. I have been informed you were offered an appointment on the day you rang (Thursday) or the Saturday as your original appointment was on Good Friday . There is also a 3 month usage when you purchased the voucher. I am sorry you feel this way, however we cannot accept vouchers after the expiry date.
