Cameron House

Great hotel, nice rooms but the breakfast was the best I have ever had anywhere in the world.

I stopped here for one night on my travels further north. I have to say, it was very enjoyable.

The building is a mixture of the old house with relatively sensitively done modern extensions. The fixtures, fittings and decor were excellent, good quality stuff and tastefully done - very 'Scottish highland lodge' type style, and feels welcoming and comfortable, if maybe a little 'masculine'.

Staff were polite and helpful and I didn't really need for anything whilst staying there.

Dining wise, the fine dining restaurant wasn't open the night I was there.... which I thought was a real shame and let the hotel down a bit... Instead I ate in the other restaurant ("The Grill" I think) onsite which I was informed was 'just as good'. I would say it was ok - the food was quite good, and the service good enough for the type of restaurant, though it was fairly uninspiring - both the menu and the execution of the dishes. I had a lobster bisque to start which was again 'ok' and a rare filet steak for the main - which was cooked correectly, though not as smokey as I would have expected from a 'Grill'.

My room was very comfortable and clean with all facilities and amenities you'd expect from a 4-5 star hotel. The decor was nice and the bed really comfy - slept really well.

The pool, (turkish) sauna and jacuzzi were all a nice welcome the following morning, and a quick game of snooker in the games room rounded off a relaxed start to my day. There is also a gym here which is also complimentary for guests, so if you're into this kind of thing then you'll find lots to do in the hotel before you venture out to the local area.

My favourite part of the stay was the whiskey bar... spent the remaining parts of the evening after Dinner trying a few of the 200+ whiskeys on offer with guidance from the friendly barman and a another visiting Scot - found a couple of new and interesting whiskeys for my collection and tried my best to get through most of what was on offer... well, I didn't get that far to be fair :-)

I would definitely recommend this place if you're looking for a luxury stay somewhere near Loch Lomond. A place you can have a romantic weekend, or even a break with the kids.
