Its pretty much what I would call my local now because I have made friends with some of the regulars.
Best evening to go is Wednesdays because of the high quality live music

This is a one off type pub. I was brought up in Northampton but emigrated to Australia many years ago but have a great affection for this pub. I return to UK on a regular basis and always find myself at the Malt Shovel. It has by far the best range of ales for miles around and are always served in tip top condition. Clientele are very laid-back, no riff-raff and the Wednesday live music is great. Nothing more to say.

Excellent pub with at least 8 or more guest beers in addition to another 4 or 5 regular Real Ales.

The Malt Shovel is what you would call a proper pub and located just outside of the main town centre near Far Cotton. It is reknowned for it’s ales and people come from far and wide to sample them. It can feel quite intimidating walking in there for the first time as you get the impression that the same people are in there every night but that is certainly not the case and everyone in there is extremly friendly. Good for a random pint of a random ale!

where the friendly folk of northampton drink. not the idiots out just for a power drink & a fight.
