Scottish Mining Museum

When we went this place had a special offer on of a family ticket for £10 however this was hidden away ext to the resteraunt and when we got two adult tickets we werent told it would be cheaper to get a family which was a bit mean of them.
The place itself is pretty good - your ticket comes with three parts and they ounch a hole in each part you have been to - this is because one of the tours is only on wednesday and sunday so you have to pre book - your ticket lasts a year so you have a while to get back there
The tour of the mine which they have recreated is great - they have an ex miner to take you around and answer any questions that you have they then leave you to explore the area where the coal was brought out and sorted - you also get to work the engine that borught the lifts up full of miners and coal. There is an audio tour which is quite lengthy
There are also exhibits one on the life of the miners and the community and another on the history of coal
I still have to go back for the third part of the tour
There is also a reception room which has weddings we had the sound of bagpipes the whole time we were there which can be a good or a bad thing

If you have ancestors who were miners then this is the place to check out the staff are very friendly and helpful and the kids love to see all the big machinery.
