Review of The Villager from 21 November 2012
Went here for a meal with my partner because we were too tired to cook after work and we were on our way to eat somewhere else when we drove past and thought we would try The Villager because we could see it was being refurbished so thought we would have a look.

We were made to feel very welcome and the staff were friendly and helpful.

The food was good pub grub, tasty with very generous portions. I had chicken with chips and salad. The chips were proper chips not oven chips. The side salad was really fresh which impressed me because in a lot of pubs you often find that the salad is wilting and less than fresh. My partner had chilli and rice which was home made and you could tell it was it looked delicious and my partner said it was, we both thought it was good value.
I was suprised that another reviewer mentioned dogs as we saw signs that said "no dogs allowed inside", so perhaps there has been a ban since that review but there were definately no dogs.

All in all I thought it was a great place to go for tea, nice food at very reasonable prices with a relaxed friendly atmosphere and at the prices they charge it would cost you as much to cook it at home.

We shall be going again and wouldnt hesitate to recommend to friends.

Good quality, down to earth pub grub. No frills, but GOOD quality, good portions and very good value.

food average, 3 people with dogs in the bar when I was trying to eat my tea.. That really put me off... One couple with 2 little kids who were running round like it was a playground.. Fat bloke behind the bar really seemed like he didnt want to be there and couldnt be bothered to smile
