Sommersalon, St. Pauli, Hamburg

Long live Sommersalon! My friends and I love this place. The music is a great mix of funk, hip hop and R&B - old and new school. The DJ’s will stir up some James Brown with Kanye and throw in some Rolling Stones too. It’s a really cool vibe. No fancy drinks, but who needs them? And absolutely no mind-numbing, repetitive techno beats. It’s never our first stop, but we always end the night there. The dance floor is jumping after 1am.

The place itself isn’t so pretty, and it gets really crowded but you’ll have a good time. Ladies - take tissues. They are always out of toilet paper.

This bar is prety hit and miss and there was a line to get in last night which seemed a bit silly as it"s OK but not all that.

I've had some great nights here when the weather was warmer first arriving in Hamburg and I've had some lame nights here too. Over-crowded full of American guys trying to hit on my friends and annoying us, the music being pure cheese at best.

Plus side the bartenders are friendly and I've got free shots and drinks here before.

I once saw a good friend fall asleep standing up in the Sommersalon. It was amazing to watch someone fast asleep in the middle of the dance floor holding a bottle of astra - STANDING. Very odd. Anyway, onto my review. The sommersalon is fun, but i'm just not sure how it fits into a night out on the Reeperbahn. I always seem to leave here feeling tired and not energised. Maybe it's the music or something.....

This is a good place for shots. But for me, it's really somewhere you hang out while you are waiting for mates. There are lots of better bars/clubs on the Reeperbahn.
