Yes, Amsterdam is quite expensive when it comes to restaurants. Still, if you know the places, you can have very good meals for reasonable prices.
I prefer going to places that are not in the tourist center. This alone will save you about 20% and usually gives you better service, quality, and originality.
Restaurant PS is one of my favorites. They don’t have a real menu, but serve food prepared with ingredients from the season. Usually you can choose between 2 or 3 dishes per course, so there will always be something to your liking.
€29,50 for a three course meal, € 34,50 for a 4 course meal or €39,50 for a 5 course meal of this quality is a good deal.
Service is really nice, the wines are good, and the atmosphere is modern but warm and cosy. Some walls are covered with beautiful Venetian glass.
Oh I almost forgot! There’s also a patio to enjoy dinner on a warm summer night.
