I done an 8 hour DJ course with Jules consisting of 4 2 hour sessions! We worked on traktor, vinyl, beat matching and it was the best thing i ever did!!! He taught me so much and he is still here to answer any of my questions and offer support even now after i have finished the course!

I also did a short 2 hour course with Tim Temple (Dj Myme) on mixing hip hop using vinyl and the serato program! He taught me loads of different ways of mixing hip hop and rnb which can't typically be beat matched!

I definatly plan to do more sessions with both Jules and Tim.

I've just completed a music production course on Ableton Live with Jules from Abstract Source and am definitely giving him 5 stars. I had three 4 hour sessions over the course of a few weeks and the time in each one just disappeared and I came out thinking what a great way to spend a few hours on a Saturday afternoon.

Everything was explained in a very easy to understand and logical way taking me right from the theory through to all the functionality of Ableton. This was obviously all done alongside a lot of practical work getting the hang of different features and techniques right up to making a complete track with vocals during the final session.

Taught me lots about production and Ableton and I had an awesome time doing it. Definitely recommended.

returning to creating music after almost 15 years, I had found the step into recording and producing my own music on logic quite daunting. I had nothing to worry about as Jules and Iain guided me through a beginners course tailored to what I was looking for. The tuition was both outstanding and easy to take in and was set to a pace that made me not only create music but actually do it competently.

While looking for a electronic music production course in London, I did some research on the schools that I initially found on the web. 90% of them I immediately decided not to give a chance due to the lack of songs produced by their tutors. The other 10% were the expensive ones and after visting them I realised that they weren't worth the hype at all.

When I was almost forgetting about the course, I saw Abstract Source's website and I could not believe that the guy that had produced all those amazing songs was giving lessons, specially with that price. I decided to meet him and I saw that I had finally found the place to be.

It was definitely the best choice. I learnt so much things about music production in so little time. The classes were so much fun and full of information. It was a great experience learning and sharing the same passion which is electronic music. 

Now after finishing this course I can say that I made a really good friend and hopefully a future music partner!!

Spent an a day with Jules doing a DJ-workshop at the end of August and enjoyed myself to the full. Having been on somewhat of a hiatus for several years with regards to buying/listening to electronic music, I decided to register for the day-long course, which focused on the theory and practice behind beat matching and pitch control techniques. We then moved onto to a bit of digital mixing on the computer in the afternoon and laid down a mix. Jules is a very knowledgable and personable teacher and it was refreshing to discuss DJ theory and music with someone with a similar taste in music and who is on a similar wavelength. All good!    

This was a fantastic way to spend the day. Left feeling like i understood a lot more about how to mix tracks, what works and doesn't, and why. Jules, the instructor/DJ is really friendly and very knowledgable, so anything you want to ask will get answered, and it's clear he knows what he's talking about. 

Being shown how to use decent vynl equipment to properly mix was the highlight for me, but the latter parts of the day spent electronically mixing, beat matching and creating your own playlist gave a good insight into how things are often done today and helped in understanding the things you get taught. 

Overall well worth it and a great day. 

Jules was the tutor on a DJ course I took recently. This was something I’d been wanting to do for a number of years, and just hadn’t got round to doing it. After a days training, it made me wish I had done this much earlier, as Jules is a great teacher and has a real knack of breaking elements of DJing down into component parts, and then explaining each part in detail so that you can appreciate very quickly what it is you are trying to do. At the end of the day you then get a chance to do a recorded mix, where you put all you’ve learned into practice, and I was really surprised at how much I’d learned in one day.

I’d thoroughly recommend this course for anyone at any level. The 8 hours flew past and it was a really enjoyable course, as we had pretty much one to one tuition and constant practical experience which really helped.

I have been studying music production with Abstract Source (Jules Dickens) for a few months and knowledge and depth of music of what I have learnt is amazing. Weekly classes I have found to be the best, working one-to-one with a producer with many years of experience and knowledge of several genres of music. I am very pleased with our work so far and thanks to Jules’ patience I have progressed a lot; and I’m extremely happy to have found a teacher who can help achieve my goals!

Jules and I recently worked together on a remix of the new ichinchilla single ‘Like a Mustang’
Jules pulled some crazy synth and drum sounds together and laid it on with some great production techniques.
We will be working together on some songwriting ideas and hey if you get a chance to work with him then..your lucky

Jules is a great producer, who will help you get the recordings you want with the minimal hassle and maximum of creativity. Annoyingly, he is equally at home with both live instruments and technology-based music, which probably means he should leave his studio more..

Every recording we have produced has been of the highest quality, and it is good to know your music is in good hands.

That’s right, Jules is a topnotch Music Producer and a skill teacher, all I know today is from his teaching skills of making sure that you have all the basis correct and up to date by combining both the technical and creativity on your side.
From day one as I had no experience neither as a DJ nor as a Music Producer and yes from novice standpoint he gave me all the tools I needed to improve at the level I am today up and running in the music industry, still a lot to learn to be at his level but because of his teaching commitment I’m quiet confident for the future.
If you’re looking for a good teacher go for it, Jules Dickens of Abstract Source is who you need to get up and running.
If I can do it after my session with Jules methodology then you can do it too
I’m as confident as ever today then before taking his training courses.

I have recently worked with Jules from Abstract Source and was very pleased with the results.

Not only was the standard of production extremely high, Jules’ friendly manner and communication was excellent.

We worked across the internet and I found it very easy to swap files and work collaboratively; even though we were miles apart.

Jules is patient, insightful and offers great advice. Jules is also flexible and quick to realise what I (the customer) wanted, before I really even knew myself!

I would work this way with Abstract Source again (across the internet) – and plan to shortly – but I am also very excited by the new Brick Lane studio, which will add yet another dimension to the superb service and skills Abstract Source already offer.

found Jules after searching for weeks for a good music production course. I was looking for 1 on 1 tuition, not too much on theory and not too expensive. All I found previously were expensive group classes. Luckily I found Jules where we arranged 1 on 1 production classes tailor made for whatever I wanted to do, whenever I wanted to do it. Classes like this are not easy to find! And the price is a fraction of what the big production schools charge. I had done a previous production course 5 years ago at a well known music college but I have learned more by doing my monthly sessions with Jules than I did in a year at the music college. I can now confidently make my own tunes from scratch. The classes are very relaxed and in 3 hours alot can be achieved. Jules is an excellent teacher and easy to get along with, and makes some top class tunes himself in all genres of dance music. Highly recommended!

I ‘discovered’ Jules through a friend. He has a knack for explaining things in a manner which is very easy to follow. My sessions on my ‘Ableton Live’ course were thoroughly enjoyable and very, very informative.
The boy clearly knows his stuff!

After the very first session i’d had with Jules, I had made significantly more progress than in the previous year i’d wasted aimlessly trying to teach myself to mix. Jules not only taught me the technique to manually beat-match but got me thinking and recognizing musical patters of ‘bars’ and ‘phrases’ so I could read where the tracks were going to go and could really enjoy mixing, and could time the transitions a whole lot better. This came in handy because after a fair bit of hard work and confidence instilled in me from Jules I managed to land a solid residency within months and playing live I learnt that you can’t always plan your sets, the knowledge of reading the patterns of music i’d picked up meant I could improvise.

Anyway, I’m waffling a bit, but basically I’d definitely rate Jules as a teacher and motivator! What is probably worth mentioning also is that I plan on going back to the studio with him very soon, two and a bit years on, for him to teach me how to produce my own music, exciting times!

Jules Dickens is a consummate audio professional and a real talent to boot. He remixed a track for my label, Uncharted Audio, in a timely and quality manner. He’s a great communicator, both through his music and in person. Basically if you’ve got an audio job needs doing, this guy is your man!

As I had no experience and was a complete novice Jules had a big task on his hands. Not only did he make me feel very comfortable on my first 3 hour session he showed me all components of the decks I was learning on. He also had me beat matching basic beats by the end of the session.
