Brasserie Halvemaan (Huisbrouwerij De Halve Man)

A definite must do on any visit to Bruges.

Our tour guide was wonderful, as well as the customary ‘how beer is made’ portion of any brewery tour, she was incredibly insightful and well informed about the history of the DeHalve Mann brewery and the family that run it, sharing with the group many interesting facts and snippets of information that made the experience that much more unique and personable. A very funny and interesting lady who is clearly very passionate about the company she works for and the beer they make, but also about the town of Bruges itself, regaling us with stories of the towns architecture and which of the plentiful chocolate shops were worth parting with your money in.

Having visited a few breweries across Europe I was incredibly impressed by how inexpensive it is, a mere 6.50Euros for a guided tour, sky line view of the town and complimentary glass of their blonde zot in their bar at the end. A steal for an insightful and humorous tour of an uncommercialised, delightful brewery.

Be warned the steps are steep, the ceilings low and under no circumstance should you attempt to trade your beer token for a soft drink.
