Cantina Mescal

Maybe by German standards this place is at least average, but, as an American accustomed to reasonable Mexican food this place is about the worst. The salsa tasted like ketchup and the guacamole tasted like "Frankfurter Grüne Soße". The drinks were weak and mostly overpriced...they talk about a €5 "happy hour" but really, that, to me, is about $7+ and Manhattan prices aren't much different. They use lousy tequila with a plastic sombrero for a cap.

All in all, I would prefer a Taco Bell Grande to anything available in this dump. The best Mexican food in Frankfurt is either Joe Pena's in Bockenheim or El Pacifico in Bornheim. A trip to Mainz has Mexico Lindo. None of them are great but they are at least a reasonable facsimile of Mexican food. Stay away from this over-priced place. 

On Thursday morning 19th May, a friend of mine came for visit from Fulda, the meeting point was Cantina Mescal (CM) since we always go there for brunch since years. I came at 9:45am, the waitress was making the table outside when i asked her if i can just sit down and wait for my friend to come, she actually send me away with the excuse that they are not open yet and i should go to the cafe next door first and come back again in 10 or 20 minutes.

My friend finally came and it was about 10:50am less or more, waitress in cantina mescal was still making the table and set up of the restaurant, we went to her and asked (normal and friendly)that we will wait and going to sit down outside near the street. We talked outside on the bench and didnt even give signal that we were in a hurry to have service at all. She also showed that she was being annoyed by our present while she was putting the cushion for the benches. About perhaps 10:10am the waitress gave us the menu. 10 min after that she came back and about to took the menu back and asked if we know what we want to have, we said to her (normal and still friendly) that we havent didnt know what we want (cos we were just catching up and sharing stories), suddenly the waitress said 'I was so in a hurry because of you two, i i rushed everything cos of you guys, so please next time just come 20 min after ok, we are actually open at 10:15am!!' with a high tone and bossy atitude. My heart stoped right away, i cant believe what i just heard. My friend spoke out and asked her if we should go. She said 'no, no..just next time come a bit later). Really, i think. She must be kidding me with this???

I worked in Villa Kennedy, a friend of mine (who also worked in Villa Kennedy) came from Fulda for visit and we choosed that place cos we always go there for breakfast. We know what a sevice mean, i worked at 6:00am and i never ever send any guest away if they want to use the facility before the opening time, it never cross my mind to even send them away! I will give my guest an explanation that our opening time is at 6:00am and i will be around to make the opening set up so they know the circumstances. Guest is the king..and it's not only saying!

This waitress was being rude, unproffesional and unfriendly. She is not a person for any service at all. If she can't handle her guest or take care of them and do her routine in the same time or even have the guts to send them away to the next door cafe, she should just sit back at home and watch movie, don't work!!!!! If im her boss, i will kick her butt out RIGHT AWAY!!!! First she sent us away twice, being rude and being annoyed by her own guest who actually the source from where she gets her money every month.

I really felt like giving a punch on her face for being rude to us and so not appreciate our visit at all. Its only because i dont want to waste my minutes with my friend (that i dont see so often) for such a bitch waitress who think she knows better about service! Or pehaps CM can't have standard like the place i worked for (in that case your serice people need to learn ALOT).

We spent 26euro for breakfast, food was good, we had American breakfast, we didnt tip (ofcourse).

A good place to come with friends for a sociable meal. Happy hour means cocktails are €4.90 5-7pm, so book your table early and start the evening with a raspberry mojito. A good solid choice for tex-Mex.
