You know it was a great place as older reviews have said.
But oh why did they change it.
Less books, less CDs, have cut back on what it was before.
It's taken a long to say this, was there this afternoon.
Staff are great, sorry but what can they do.
People just put up with it, why?
I know cuts and all that, and that complaints to people in Gov
has stopped, old news?

Colchester Library is an absolute treasure trove for the serious Academic Reader.
For people wishing to read books of import i.e books that will inform and shape your thinking; from local University Students to Adult Self Learners; Colchester Library is an essential to add to your Must See Colchester List. There are regular supplies of genuine Textbooks relating to Economics, Sociology, Politics, Philosophy Literature, Poetry with the usaul array of literature we come to expect from our Libraries.
( I don’t claim that undergraduates will be able to service needs from the Library but an old copy of a Text is better than nothing)
This is not the usaul picture you expect from a Local Library whose books are run of the mill. But Colchester Library distinguishes itself in an most exceptional fashion.
All your worst thoughts relating to the Public Library System will be obliterated when you see the sheer range of books that will keep any serious Reader happy, and it is that makes it worthy of full marks.
In addition the Staff are also friendly and there is a Cafe on the ist floor where the Library is based along with photocopiers etc. This only adds to the experience and one’s comfort as one peruses the shelves.
The Internet Area is of course welcome plus the Childrens Area. But again the thing that stands out for me is the Academic Library and that is something to use and rejoice in.

Colchester library is modestly sized, yet offers a superb range of books on most things. You can join without taking any ID and then go and use the internet computers. I often go in there to use the computers while im in town doing other things because the library is slap bang in the middle of town. the starr are always very helpful. the only things that can be an annoyance are that sometimes there are groups of kids who can be quite loud when you are trying to concentrate, and also there have been a few occasions when the computers were not working.

Colchester Library is, quite frankly, awesome. There is a huge selection of books and videos in all genres, and staff are always on hand to offer advice or guidance in finding books. The computer system is brilliant, as it not only tell you which books are in stick but where in the library to find them You can also book computers to surf the internet, which is brilliant if your home computer gives up the ghost at the critical stage in a project or similar. In all, the best library in the Colchester area and highly recommended for readers of all ages.

The library is excellent for all ages. You can spend hours in there researching your family history, surfing the internet, looking at newspapers even looking for books if you wanted. Never get the feeling of being rushed by the staff, always very helpful
