Awesome decor, good atmosphere, nice and spacious, and plenty of comfy seats.
We ordered nachos and were very pleasantly surprised when such huge platefuls came out. I got the veggie chilli nachos and couldn’t finish them, which for me is a good thing as I eat a lot. I’d say they were the tastiest nachos I’ve had in Brighton, and I like to think of myself as a bit of a nacho expert. All that and they were only a fiver.
The only annoying thing was that the member of staff who served us seemed more concerned with chatting to the regulars than serving us, which was a shame.
I second that emotion Samantha. I’ve always found the staff here friendly, laid-back and helpful. It seems to me that any ‘alternative’ crowd is prepared to tolerate a ‘straight’ looking patron far more than a straight crowd would accept the seemingly bizarre.
The pint of Doom Bar is one of the best-kept in the city. One drawback is that the pool table is poorly situated making it impossible to take some shots without running the risk of poking the cue into a nearby drinker’s ear – and even the most forbearing of souls draw the line at that kind of thing.
The Caroline of Brunswick can be a bit scary looking with its red and black goth decor ad the enormous hounds of hell sculpture above the bar, but its actually a really nice pub. The staff are mega alterative covered in tatts with dreadlocks etc, but really friendly.
They do a awesome pub quiz on Tuesday which is great for those cold winter evening, and even some covered outside place at the back.
There is nothing flashy about this place. Great. It’s just a good rock pub with no pretence about it. The music is loud and the atmosphere lively. Fortunately it also tends to be less of a rip-off than a lot of other places in town. It’s slightly off the beaten track, and unless you’re specifically looking for a rock pub, it seems unlikely you’ll seek it out. If you do happen to stumble across it’s path though, be sure to grab a Guinness on the way past.
This is a nice rock pub with affordable drinks, nice bar staff and occasionally, live music. I would definitely recommend it.
The moment we walked through the door, my mate and I felt out of place. Don’t get me wrong, we were made to feel welcome, and the bar staff were friendly, but this pub was not our scene. It is quite obviously aimed at Goths.
The was the normal range of lagers and keg beers, and they had Hobgoblin real ale which was a nice pint.
There was a small beer garden (or smokers area) out the back and this was packed.
There was nothing wrong here, but we just felt out of place. If you’re a goth and/or a student, then you’ll like this place.
