A few weeks ago I went to Meatballs on my way to a gig in the area. It’s really a nice place! I was a bit confused by the menu and thought I had to specify what three meatballs I’d like for one portion, so I asked for three different ones instead of one portion of three times the same kind of meatball and sauce. However, they happily did it, so I could try three different meals in one go. All three were delicious! :)
Good work. They’ve kept all that was great about the Quality Chop House, such as the old school Victorian style setting and the immense quality of cuisine emanating from the kitchen, but have wisely shed the previous incarnation’s only real flaw which was slightly ambivalent service. Back in the day when the QCH was still flourishing, The Guardian HQ was located a few minutes down the road. Since the latter moved on, the impact is obvious.
So this is a splendid and excellent new opening. You probably don’t need me to tell you that the menu is centred around those fleshy balls of delicious delight, but what I can let you know is that they knock ’em out to perfection. And at pretty good value as we. There are variations on the them and all manner of sides to keep your creative, culinary juices flowing. The two desserts I tried were also of the same impeccable class.
As mentioned before, the service is most pleasant, the setting is thankfully much the same and the quality much the same of the much-missed meat heaven that was the QCH. What a tasty comeback!

Meatballs opened last week on Farringdon Road in the old Quality Chop House premises. They have kept the interior as it was with a lot of wooden and long benches to sit on. Even though it had opened almost a week before we were the only ones in there for lunch.
Started off with a glass of their excellent blueberry gin (it was after 12 after all) which had a nice subtle blueberry flavour. The best part of it though were the blueberries soaked in gin that they had added to it, bursting with gin when bit into.
There are five different kinds of meatballs, beef, lamb, courgette, chicken and pork. These can be had with pasta or as sliders. I went for the sliders which is a selection of 3 different kinds of meatballs and then added an extra slider so I could try the beef, courgette, chicken and pork ones. Other alternatives is to have the meatballs with pasta. The sliders come in fluffy, soft brioche buns. For me the chicken with the lemon sauce and the pork meatballs were definitely the best but the courgette one was pretty close with its mild curry flavoured sauce.
Will definitely come back again.
