I was shoked to read the reveiw by Jennifer 10/8/10 I have lived in Westgate for the last 4 years and regularly use the Carlton. We are a family of 7 with children ranging from 9-18 we have always found the staff friendly and accomodating. Please don't write it off give it another chance as small independent enterprises such as this need support or end up closing to the detriment of the local community

I cannot praise the Carlton enough, having been a regular visitor for years I was very shocked when it was forced to close. How relieved I was when we found out it was reopening. I urge everyone young and old to visit this place, no queing, no exhorbitant prices and no dithering over how much popcorn to buy. The two of us can go there, have a drink and something to munch on all for £10.00. Work that out all ye who visit the view.

Lovely traditional cinema with friendly staff. Everything is so expensive these days, so it is nice to be able to watch a movie, have some popcorn and still have enough money to fuel my lavish lifestyle. Going out to a movie is an ancient tradition that should be accessable for all, and the Carlton does well to please.

As a resident of the area I thought I would visit and try to support my local cinema instead of making my usual trip with my children to the vue. I was absolutely disgusted and appalled when I was refused entry as one of my children is under 2. I was watching a children's film and my child was quiet so could see no reason why I couldn't take him in, I am responsible and would have left if he started crying. I have taken him to vue on a number of occasions with no problems. I find these rules for a supposed family cinema very upsetting so therefore would not recommend the carlton cinema in westgate.

The Carlton is an excellent cinema with extremely helpful and friendly staff. I am not at all surprised that Jennifer was refused entry with a child of under 2 years. What is surprising is a mother who feels it appropriate to take a baby aged under 2 to the cinema at all and expect the child to sit quietly for 2+ hours without disturbing the rest of the audience.

How bizzare to take a child under 2 to the cinema.
The Carlton is a lovely friendly cinema with staff who really care.
Its very reasonably priced and shows a very wide choice of films.
For families there is no rip off with the popcorn etc as a family owned cinema the owners radiate common sense and care for their customers. -

The Charlton, Hooray for common sense.
Obviously feel sorry for Mum, but children come with a duty as do cinema’s -

It is quite silly to take a child under 2 to the cinema. I’d probably leave if I had to sit next to a baby who was gargling all through the film. None of my friends with children would ever consider doing that! I think the Carlton made the right choice here.
We loved this little cinema when we were holidaying in Westgate. It’s really friendly and reasonably priced, we found it a joy to go there and we would recommend it.

A very nice little independent cinema in Westgate-on-Sea. Reasonably priced tickets, especially on a Monday when all seats are £3, the rest of the time prices are £4.20 - £6.
The cinema is divided into 3 screens, Premiere, Century and Bijou screens, the biggest being the Premiere (this screen also has the most expensive seats £6 for their premier seats) and this is where most of the new releases are shown.
The century and the Bijou screens are both quite a bit smaller (the bijou is like watching a film in your front room!) but both show the bigger releases a couple of weeks after and also show the more independent films.
Overall a nice little cinema well worth a visit if in the area and dont fancy a trip to the big multiplex.
